12. Obama is a good speaker
The contrast between Obama and Dodd is clear. Something about his phrasing, emphasis, and vocabulary makes one want to listen.

Good mix of Bush-bashing and positive talk.

LOL- just said that we don't want the voters to go into the booth with a "hold your nose" attitude and chose between the lesser of two evils

25. How unfortunate to have to follow Obama!
I like the General--we worked hard for him last time around. Much as I want the General to do well, I honestly thought he did not shine in this speech. In part, I think it was a pretty good speech, but maybe not quite on target for this particular audience. I think the majority of the problem for Clark, however, was the fact that he was speaking after Obama.

Obama (and this is no shock to anyone who saw him in his Senate race) was dead on for the audience and he was hitting the target with his delivery. Good as Clark is (and he is usually very good) he suffered because he was speaking after Obama. Frankly, I'm not sure there are many orators--even in our national history--that could follow Obama without some stress. He's THAT good.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: Obama is a force of nature when he's speaking. I have NEVER in all my years as political junkie and activist EVER seen anyone connect with a room like Obama does. While speaking to a room full of Dems is not representative of the campaign experience as a whole, it IS illustrative of how he's gonna come across in a Primary race.

I'm so very glad I am off today to see this.

Regards!

65. I've seen Obama in a number of settings. He's ALWAYS been on.
I've seen him work a room, I've seen him in front of small groups and I've seen any number of stump speeches he's made. He really IS that good. A lot of folks really don't know who or what Obama is--just like the General in the last Presidential Primary--and THAT is why these appearances are so important for ANY candidate. We learn about them as we watch them in public.

Clark absolutely blew me away when he was in NH at some town hall meeting or other (sorry, I can't remember which one--its been a while.) Clark is the ONLY person I've ever seen in politics who will talk about world history nd how it applies to the Middle East--and he does it in one on one discussion. He's amazing and he's brilliant, and he's never had the widespread recognition he deserves.

There have been a lot of us who have been torn between Obama and Clark in this one. In truth, I'm still not sure where I'll fall out if the General jumps in. If I'm being totally honest, I'll admit to having watched Edwards as a possibility WAY back when he was fairly unknown. Edwards is not currently on my "short list" however because I honestly think Clark and Obama are *that* good. Who knows--a lot can happen between now and election day...

Anyhow, please don't write off Obama as being just a lot of smoke and mirrors or some media phenom. He's not, and di missing him is a strategic mistake that no candidate can afford to make.

Regards!

Laura

26. Why didn't Edwards stand up when it counted. WHy didn't he stand
up against the IWR rather than Co-Sponsor it? Amazing how he speaks about backbone and courage when he's demonstrated anything but. Invoking the image of the fallen solider really took a lot of nerve - but since when has Edwards lacked that.

30. Edwards playing up the populist message.
He's hitting it, and doing a good job. Invoking the image of the children, and the workers and our needs. Edwards is a good speaker. Talking about the Dem party not needing to "change" just to return to who we are.

Lots of good audience response for Edwards.

57. A bit of her speech:
"Who can forget Hil standing up and telling China that women's rights are HUMAN rights...?"

"A fierce advocate of giving the troops what they need--things like body armour."

Parts of her introduction...
----

Gets a warm welcome from the crowd.

"I am Hillary Clinton and I am running for President. I am in and I am in to win. We have to take our country back."

"I will work with my colleagues in the Senate and we will do all we can to change the direction of this country." "Things are just not right. We've lost something in (recent) years."

She's doing well. Hitting the delivery, and getting some good feedback from the audience. Talking about her personal history a bit. Dad the vet and her middle class background...

"...the shame of 36,000 victims of Katrina still living in trailers."

Talking about China and how we are in debt to them. "It is difficult to get tough on your banker." We need to stand up for American workers. We need a new economic strategy. We need a new middle class.

I want to renew that promise of America. I want to restore the greatness and respect for our country around the world. Talking about we need a large effort to say no to (the asswipe.) Wants to say to Iraq about sending them more money for their troops.

"I would not have started this war."

"If we in Congress do not end this war, when I am President, I will."

We are going to afford quality affordable Universal Health care for every American.
