DESPITE INTERNATIONAL REPORT, WH REJECTS CO2 CAPS; COULD CAUSE JOB LOSS
NYT/AP: White House Rejects Mandatory CO2 Caps
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Despite a strongly worded global warming report from the world's top climate scientists, the Bush administration expressed continued opposition Friday to mandatory reductions in heat-trapping ''greenhouse'' gases.

Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman warned against ''unintended consequences'' -- including job losses -- that he said might result if the government requires economy-wide caps on carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.

He and other administration officials at a news conference praised the report Friday by a United Nations-sponsored panel of top climate scientist who said there is little doubt the earth is warming as a result of man-made emissions.

But Bodman said technology advancements that will cut the amount of carbon emissions, promote energy conservation, and hasten development of non-fossil fuels can address the problem.

''We have aggressive but practical solutions,'' added Stephen Johnson, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

More than a half-dozen bills have been introduced, mostly by Democrats, calling for some form of mandatory carbon controls in the United States, which emits a quarter of the earth's carbon dioxide releases into the atmosphere....

1. Double speak again.
"''unintended consequences'' -- including job losses"

The bushes don't seem to mind losing 3 million factory jobs to outsourcing, why should this bother them?

3. Any "job loss" would be more than made up for by retrofitting our
country for lower carbon omissions.

The scrubbers wouldn't put themselves on smokestacks. People would have to do it. The mass transit system wouldn't build themselves. People would do it. The in-fill housing and commercial properties would be built by people. The inter-city high-speed rail would be built by people. The research into alternatives to petroleum wouid be done by people.

These would all be people with well-paying jobs.

4. Job loss? All our jobs are overseas. Unless he's worried about jobs in China.
The factories might actually have to move back here. Oh, Smirky can't have that happen. Bad for bidnez.

and their own

Heaven forbid they should actually show some iota of caring for American workers. It's more likely that the Tooth Fairy will appear in the sky and shower gumdrops all over the planet, than it would be for the Misadministration to care about average Americans.

.... like it.

Global Warming Report No

I.S.G. Report on Iraq No

CIA and DoE report that Iraq had no WMDs No

National Inet. Estimate on Iraq No

GAO & Homeland Security reports that electronic voting machines are bad No

One line or one phrase out of anything that supports the White House Yes

The greatest economic boom the world will see will be renewable self supporting
ecosystems and green energy ...... but until bush's Coal, Oil, Gas, and energy buddies
can own and dominate that market bush will fight it tooth and nail. The Great Plains
from Texas up to Canada could become wealthy and provide us with jobs, money,
hydrogen, wind power, bio fuels, bison & cattle meat (free range around the wind
and solar farms), and see miles of prairie and savannah that will support wildlife,
give beauty of 10 millions blooms or seas of grass ..... along with recharging the
Ogallala Aquifer. God are the republicans short sighted.

For somebody from Harvard on the Hocking aka Ohio U w/ a degree in Environmental
Biology years ago my ears bleed when I hear idiots like Glen Beck or suck up mouth pieces
talk about global warming.
