response to the name "DEMOCRAT PARTY"
I'm suggesting we refer to the GOPer party as RepubliCANT

as in "CAN'T DO ANYTHING"

behind all the spin and photo ops and pressers on just about any issue the basic excuse is "Can't do it"

2. To be honest
(and this probably won't be popular here) I prefer to call them by their proper name (Republican) just like I would prefer to be called by our proper name (Democrat). Why engage in their silly, childish games?

Note: To be perfectly honest, I have used the term Repukes from time to time, but I really try hard not to.

3. because polite, unilateral disarmament handed over the government to them
you don't have to respond by calling them a name back, but you do have to respond. for instance:

"HEY! the name of my party is the democratIC party. it has been around for ages and represents half the country and i REFUSE to believe you don't know how to refer politely to me and my party. so if you want to continue this conversation, you had better start showing me and the other half of the country some proper respect!"

8. That's exactly right!
We can all see what being polite, and trying to work in a bipartisan manner has gotten us. Royally screwed.

Enough with the manners, it's past time to fight back using the same tactics they throw at us!

Enough is enough!

If a BJ was enough to get Clinton impeached, what Bush has done certainly warrants the same response. Same for Cheney. The set the precedent, we just need to follow it now.

4. Well said!
I only mutilate names when it makes a strong point. Otherwise, it's a waste of energy and makes the user look like a fool.

In a forum like DU, its use is casual and forgivable, but in more public and serious use, it should be avoided. The best way to express outrage is by carefully composing one's thoughts and words.

The best exemplar of that rule ("carefully composing one's thoughts and words") I know here -- even when you disagree with him (and especially when you disagree with him) is Will Pitt. I found Pitt's writing months before I signed on here, and I copied several of his essays and gave them to everyone I knew. I still read them from time to time as models of impassioned, persuasive political writing.

7. But our Proper Name is NOT DEMOCRAT Party. It Is DEMOCRATIC Party.
Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 06:20 AM by fasttense
DEMOCRAT is a noun as is Republic. Democratic is an adjective as is Republican. Rush Limpball claims he will never call us the Democratic party because he thinks there is nothing democratic about the Democratic party. Now people who listen to Limpball frequently call us the Democrat party, most of the media and the bushes. I say I'm a Democrat who belongs to the Democratic party. And they sound silly as if they don't know the difference between an adjective and a noun. Rush Limpball is a republican who belongs to the republican party. The mix up is that republican is an adjective and a noun, and the noun republic usually refers to a group or government and is rarely used to describe an individual.

Anyway I don't think it is silly to be concerned about words. Words frame the argument and can hide as much as they tell.

edited for clarity.

6. My response is
you are a dumbfuck who doesn't know the differance between a noun and an adjective.

My days of being polite to the fascists are over.

Or I say, "What's a Democrat Party?"

11. I've Grown Tired of Us Being Called Demo-Craps
I've gotten very tired of hearing us called Demo-craps. The funniest rejoinder I've heard for the principal name-callers is "conserva-turd." As for that other bunch: Re-thugs, Re-piggies, and Re-crud-licans works fine for me.

12. I correct them.
I say "It's the Democratic Party, not the Democrat Party. Just FYI."

If they say something snarky or even a neutral "What's the difference?" I'll respond with "Well, it lowers your standing in the public discource when you can't even pronounce the major players names correctly. How am I supposed to take your ideas about government at all seriously, if you don't even care to learn the names of the political parties? It'd be like having a conversation about football with someone who doesn't know the names of the teams. I wouldn't take them seriously."

All really nice and serious.

If they snark back that they're doing it to be insulting, probably by saying it again putting an emphasis on the Rat part, then I'll respond with my karate CHOP! HAI AH! ;)
