Whistleblower Confirms: U.S. Embassy Iraq built w/Forced Labor

Did Iraq embassy contractor abuse workers?
Whistleblowers say yes; U.S. continues to monitor Kuwaiti company
June 13, 2007

A Kuwaiti contractor accused of abusing workers at the new U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has also worked on a host of other U.S. projects since the Iraq war began in 2003, according to Defense Department records.

Whistleblowers who worked on the embassy have told officials at the State and Justice departments, as well as NBC News, that the contractor, First Kuwaiti International Trading, had brought workers, mostly South Asians and Filipinos, to Baghdad under false pretenses, then abused and threatened them while there. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19214872/

The main whistleblower is a medic named Rory Mayberry, who was contracted by First Kuwaiti to work on the embassy project:

Mayberry alleges that when he showed up at the Kuwait airport for his flight into Baghdad, there were 51 Filipino employees of First Kuwaiti also waiting for the same flight — except the Filipinos believed they were going to Dubai.

.......................

"The steward was having problems keeping guys in their seats because they were so upset, wanted to get off the airplane," says Mayberry. "They were upset they weren’t headed to Dubai where they were promised they were working."

He says when he arrived in Baghdad he notified the State Department official in charge of the embassy project about what had happened on his flight and she replied "that’s the way they do it."

1. Not surprised in the least... glad to see it covered by msnbc. .
It should have been given higher visibility, but at least someone mentioned it.

3. This is a disgrace.
We are using imported slave labor while high unemployment among Iraqi citizens fuels the violence.

14. It's getting to the point where nothing shocks me anymore.
Sometimes I wonder if there is any boundary they won't cross? Doesn't seem to be.

Randi mentioned this a couple days ago. Be sure to use 'slavery' or 'slaves' when talking about this.

"Did you know we used Kuwaiti SLAVES to build the new Embassy?"
We claim to want to "spread" democracy, and we do this?

12. Is there anything anywhere within the octopus reach of the U.S. government
under the Bush Junta that is NOT corrupt, dehumanizing, illegal, inhumane, a gross violation of all of our ideals, laws and progressive history, murderous, unaccountable, callous, thieving, gangster-like, deceitful, predatory, injurious, costly unto the 7th generation, greedy, loathesome, mind-bogglingly stupid, illegitimate, totally without merit, "incompetent" (by design), crude, chaotic, irresponsible, anti-life, anti-democratic, unconstitutional, treasonous, and worthy of long terms in prison? Anything? Name me one thing.
