Mosque bombings.
Over the past 48 hours a significant number of Mosques have been bombed around Iraq. First, it was the Shiite mosque in Samarra, for which al Qaeda took responsibility. After that, apparently the Shiites took it personally and decided to begin bombing Sunni mosques. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Sunnis and Shiites both Muslim?

Now before that is answered by someone much smarter than me, I must point out that I do not clearly understand the fundamental differences between Sunnis and Shiites. I've honestly never taken the time to find out, and I will work on remedying that, but it seems to me wrong to bomb a house of your god, whether it is your particular sect or not. Either way, Shiite or Sunni, you're still praying to Allah in the mosque, and it's the same Allah. Therefore, isn't it a bit short sited to destroy a house of god in your own religion...?

Christians have been persecuting other Christians for years, but it's been a long time since we went so far as to bomb a Catholic church in support of Baptists.

al Qaeda is responsible for inciting this particular sectarian violence, as if they were that guy in the fight. You know...the one who tells the big bully that you said something about his mother and then just steps back into the shadows and watches you get pummeled. And of course, American troops are in the middle of this fracas, entrenched and embroiled in the conflict. Where are the Iraqi security forces during all of this? Well, today it was reported that 13-15 of them are now under arrest for perpetrating bombings themselves. Glad to see these Iraqi security forces take their job of stabilizing their country so damned seriously.

1. Sunnis and Shiites
Just because they are both muslims is like saying that Catholics and Baptists are both Christians.

Here is the difference.

2. IMO
some of it maybe false flag stuff - i.e. shi'ite militias or other agent provocateurs bombing their own mosque so they can go after the sunnis.

As for christians, don't forget the Rwanda genocide when christians massacred each other, some even in churches.
Bottomline is that humans are tribal and once those urges are unleashed it doesn't matter how similar the rival tribe is.

3. I have been trying to research this thing
These mosques are very old. The holy men buried in the one destroyed yesterday were buried in the 800s. That mosque had been there a long time.

I want to know if Muslims destroyed mosques of other sects before we got there. I somehow just don't see a Muslim doing this.

I have been trying to research this. I do not know a lot about the history of the Middle East. I know they were at war during the Crusades and when they were invaded by the Turks. But I can't seem to find much information about wars between Sunni and Shiite or other sects in the region. If anyone has information, would you please enlighten me.

I think this administration wants civil wars in Iraq. It gives us an excuse to stay there. I also think this administration has no intention of ever leaving Iraq. I think they want to be there to protect the oil and the oil companies interest.

Who are these elusive al Qaeda?
