Shirley Smith: The Deflowering of Women's Rights by the Bush GOP
MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

BuzzFlash,

It's another crime against women when such willful ignorance can still be found in U.S. government.

Rape is terrible. Rape is awful. Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that's been raped?" the Kansas Republican asked at the St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers gathering.
Thought Theater: Sen. Brownback: On Managing Mommy's Uterus

How could Brownback possibly know about the devastation that women suffer from rape? Does he not know of the young women in our military in Iraq, who risked death due to heat and some died because of the fear of being raped during a trip to the military latrine? Some women never recover from rape. Their lives, marriages become ruined. What is it going to take for this nation to begin to respect women, people of color, gays, and ourselves as a free democracy ... because this will not happen until we respect all human life, and their natural freedom over their own lives, and that includes their bodies.

It's taken years for US courts to understand rape and at least prosecute it, and still we find this outrageous ignorance and stupidity in US government. No one can walk in those same shoes of a woman who has been raped, especially those of the opposite sex, unless they, too, have suffered at the hands of a predator. But, for US government to choose for a woman what she should do with her own body, especially after being raped ... the trauma suffered by many women, no one knows how this would affect them. Some women would be so traumatized by that, that they might commit suicide rather than carry a rapist's child. Who knows? It's personal.

If legislators want to get closer to this subject, then they should try to put their own wives in such situations, inside their minds ... would they want their own wives to carry the child of a rapist or would they want their own wives to be able to make that decision themselves? Stop and think about it as if it could happen to you and yours.

8. You don't need to be a woman
One doesn't have to be a woman to understand what it's like.

2. Get stuffed, Brownback.
:grr: K&R. What a self-righteous, insensitive douchebag...Are these people completely incapable of empathy? Do they only care about themselves and their "values," and screw everybody else?

I think I've answered my own questions. :puke: Thanks for posting this - it needs to be read. And understood.

card-carrying psychopaths? Like, not just a little bit sociopathic--like what would have happened if Eric Harris had skipped Columbine, become an adult and then run for Congress instead. Sick, sick, sick, sick.

3. Same position of the Vatican on raped women...
...during the Balkan war, expecially in Bosnia.

I posted on Vatican asking catholics to stop supporting Amnesty International and on Bush's message to Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting. He's clear enough on his agenda on the subject of abortion rights.

Note that during his trip in my country (Italy) Bush met the Pope and the outcome was that there had been a common view on subjects like family, life and so on.

6. self-righteous, mysogenist, control freaks - this is STILL about
MEN controlling women. What would life be like for women if we could live it WITHOUT being subject to mens' violence and control?

We wouldn't have these issues...
