These should be locked and the posters tombstoned. This is the DEMOCRATIC (BIG D) Underground. Those posts are pukeworthy.

2. Who knows who anybody's going to end up voting for?
The election is nearly 2 years away. Anyone who announces now will likely draw fatal fire between now and then.

I'll vote for whatever prochoice candidate the party puts forward.

I won't cross the choice line, though, any more than I'd have crossed the abolitionist line in the 1850s.

11. Same here

That is my line in the sand. If they aren't pro-choice, they will not get my vote...no exceptions.

Cheers

15. Careful. I was treated like a heretic for saying I won't make a final choice until election day.
The guises of close-mindedness seem endless.

but I've developed an asbestos hide.

Going to be a pain in the ass to dispose of properly after the next election.

3. Is a little "D" all it takes for you?
There are many who choose to identify themselves as Democrats who have done nothing but collaborate with the Bush regime for the last 6 years - it is perfectly valid for a Democrat to have a strong distaste for them.

5. YES Party affiliation makes a huge difference
I'd vote for a right leaning 'D' over a left leaning 'R' any day. When you elect a President you are voting for a team, not just one person. Candidates really should run based on their team. We should know the whole administration that we're electing.

6. Is Fill-in-the-blank running AGAIN?
If he(she)gets the nomination I will defect to the _______ Party! That is definitely it. He(she)(it)(they) are all the same.

Seriously one way to avoid this is to center on the people, the false things that may distract of effect thier best choice and offer the best process. As indiviudals and public servants in actual fact all the choices would be 90% perfect. As a contest it will be imperfect. The electorate will be reactive according to certain things in no one's ultimate control. Nothing is accomplished here by demonizing candidates. The worst are not in our party and not running. No problem. Process and issues should be discussed lively and if we COULD actually influence the state of the voter's choice politeness would also be required. I don't think our phone volunteering or door knocking would be as offensive as the toothless internet posts allow themselves to be to no good purpose.

Usually IF we have good reasons to criticize candidates it WILL signal weakness in the electorate that will weaken their candidacy with or without our threads. Point of politeness: the pre-doomed "threatening" candidacy of delusional Joe L. All subsequent shouting only adds to unnecessary bad feelings hurtful to people inclined to strengthen our grass roots. If you feel like throwing up on the roller coaster, hang your head over the side.

10. Bullshit.
2. Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

By far, the smears and criticisms of Democratic candidates on DU come from self-proclaimed partisan Democrats who favor another candidate than from non-partisan liberals and independents on this board. In the five years I've been a member here, with very few exceptions, it's the people who are issued-based rather than label-based who're the most civil and respectful to the candidates. By far.

12. Me and Tom Jefferson disagree with you.
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." --Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795

Indeed, I'd doubt the destination were honestly stated.

14. Absolutely, because we don't want anybody...
voting his or her conscience! That stuff is for idealists, not for people who see the big picture. We darn sure don't want those idealists running around voting against whomever the party has anointed!

Oh, btw...:sarcasm:
