It's hard to find something to compare him to.

5. If Bush is so stupid
what does that make us, considering he's been kicking our ass for the last six-and-a-half years, and we still don't seem to be able to rein him in?

16. Under Cheney's thumb, I guess, is what we are.
To paraphrase Condi:

"Who would have ever thought" they'd cheat like they did, rigging ballots so Jews voted for Buchanan, and supressing votes?

"Who would have ever thought" they'd rig voting machines?

"Who would have ever thought" the Supreme Court would abdicate their duty in favor of raw political power?

What that makes us, in my mind, is OLDER and WISER now. We just couldn't believe that any candidate in our open system could be THAT mendacious--even post-Nixon, we still couldn't believe any political operative could be that vicious and craven. Sure, everyone expects a "little bit" of dirty tricks here and there, but those bastards raised it to a horrifying and wicked art form.

And, fool us once (Florida), shame on them. Fool us twice {Ohio) shame on us.

I sure do hope we won't get fooled again.

7. He's not stupid. He's intellectually lazy.
Those 2 things are not the same at all. If he were stupid he wouldn't have survived this long. He would have been toast before he ever got to run for president.

9. Why no middle ground? Average intelligence to slightly above average
isn't a choice?

That's my answer.

I don't buy the popular myth of george being stupid. He's no intellectual giant, but he's also not a mental midget either.

17. You can be intelligent without being smart.
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 10:37 PM by rocknation
He's smart enough to know he ISN'T smart enough, and he allows smart people to do the real work for him. Why do you think he's so desparate to hang on to Cheney, Rove, and Gonzalez? They're clearly the power behind the throne.

20. That makes sense
Cheney is the real power source. Rove is the deflector shield.

But Gonzales? What is his 'talent'?

22. All the skeletons are buried
and even then bush makes his own decisions, and people underestimate him constantly

Assume he will do something evil and unexpected, (such as attack Iran or gut FEMA) and I guarentee you will not be disapointed

18. Average. If not for his rich family and friends, his success in crookedness...
...would be limited to pilfering office supplies at his dead end job.

He's not stupid. He's the essence of mediocrity.

19. No one who's truly stupid gets to be president of the United States
even illegitimately.

W is a very poor speaker even by non-political standards and it's apparent that he doesn't think very well outside a small list of topics — clearing brush comes to mind. And I'm amazed every time I see a photo or video of him in the classroom on the morning of 9.11.2001 because it's clear that he simply did not know what to do.

But, he's obviously smart enough to have fooled some 60,000,000 people three years ago.

23. George W. Bush is dumber than a bag of fucking rocks.
If a woefully unqualified, but intelligent politician found himself in the Oval Office, he might not know how to give a press conference at first, but he would learn after six years. He might not have the best diction or pronunciation, and might give speeches that would earn a high school junior a B- in a public speaking class, but as an intelligent person, he would would learn that nookyular is incorrect, "internet" is singular, and misunderestimate is simply not a fucking word. He might make insensitive remarks to the families of fallen soldiers at first, but he would quickly learn what is appropriate and what is not.

Time to take notice of the 800-lb gorilla in the room: George W. Bush is a fucking idiot.

24. bush is incredibly stupid...for a while I thought he was just dumb,
but I have come to the conclusion that stupidity is part of his makeup as a human being.

Only the most stupid would not learn from mistake after mistake, and yet continue to believe those mistakes are somehow going to turn out "OK".

I can usually handle stupidity over ignorance, as stupidity is difficult, if not impossible to breach; whereas ignorance is self inflicted. But w/bush, having such a remarkably stupid individual in a place of some serious power is asking for trouble. bush is perfectly capable of launching nukes, as he cannot comprehend that such a thing would be incredibly devastating. The frightening part about people this stupid, is that they think they are smarter than everyone else, and that is where the danger really comes from...:(

25. I think you are confusing your displeasure at his policies with mistakes. They were done
on purpose, everyone of his policies.

There is no mistake about it.

What bush learned is that the dems will give him whatever he asks for. When they subpeona his people he says fuck you, and nothing bad happens.

bush asked for 100 billion for his occupation and he got every penny, no strings attached. Was that a mistake by bush?

The only mistake I ever saw bush make was allowing camera crews into New Orleans after Katrina. That cost him. And he learned from that error; He signed a presidential order that put him in charge of any national emergency. But mistakes that cost you nothing aren't really mistakes. They are well planned and well executed crimes. He's getting away with almost all of them.

Is that because he's stupid?

As I say, I think you are confusing successful crimes against Americans and the world with mistakes.

26. You're right there.
I kept thinking he was dumb but then I had to admit this guy got elected Prez TWICE. He hired Rove who is very smart at feeling out the public, bad-mouthing the other candidates and staying on message about his own candidate. The swiftboaters attack against Kerry worked; Kerry's numbers dropped like a rock. The angle about Bush being a druggie and never showing up for duty didn't stick. Now why is that other than their political campaign worked better than the Democrats.
