TSA Releases Tape After Woman Says Sippy Cup Caused Airport Raucus
Saturday , June 16, 2007

ARLINGTON, Virginia — The U.S. Transportation Security Administration is denying allegations that an airport screener seized a toddler's cup and mistreated his mother, taking the unusual step of posting security camera footage on its Web site...

A TSA report said Emmerson told an officer she was a Secret Service agent, flashed her credentials and said she was exempt from the "stupid" policy restricting liquids on planes...

The video that TSA posted on its Web site Friday shows Emmerson being escorted from the security checkpoint as she appears to take the top off the sippy cup and shake it upside down.

It shows that after she was confronted by several officers, she used paper towels fetched by the TSA to clean up the spot as other passengers stream by her...

7. I watched the footage and there's no way to be sure who's overreacting
The view was obscured when she spilled or shook out the water, and you can't tell what they're arguing about after, whether she's asking to speak to a supervisor, or they're detaining and harrassing her.

Although I'd certainly say it looks like harrassment when they keep making her go back with more paper towels to clean up what could not have been more than four or five ounces of liquid even if the entire sippy cup were full and she had poured it all out (which does not appear to have been the case).

So I'd say the posting of the footage by TSA did nothing to "bust" her story, and possibly made them look like the ones being jerks, but it is certainly not definitive.

8. I would say it's undeniable that 'spill' was on purpose.
She opens it with her right hand, turns to her left and throws her arm in a downward motion - shaking it for good measure.

She's full of shit if she says she 'spilled' it......but then again, she's a cop(secret service) and probably has no problem with lying.

4. Sorry, but I think this woman was out of line
As soon as I read this:

"Emmerson told an officer she was a Secret Service agent, flashed her credentials and said she was exempt from the "stupid" policy restricting liquids on planes...

I instantly lost the ability to feel any sympathy for the woman. I hold no quarter for people who, for any reason, feel they have some kind of special entitlement.

While the no-liquids rule is obviously "stupid" and nothing more than more bush theatrics to give the illusion of safety while conditioning people for his police state, this woman shouldn't be accorded any special treatment solely because of her connection to the bush criminal cabal. In fact, her mere presence would make me feel less secure.

6. i agree, the rules are for everyone
nobody gets special treatment because they have spawned and nobody gets special treatment for flashing a badge

i'm getting real tired of the crowd that thinks the rules should only apply to "those other people"

5. Well, it's good to read the other side
She didn't say anything about flashing her badge in her story.
