RE: URGENT 2007 FEED-A-PET DONATION REQUEST

Dear HYPHENATE

We have just received fantastic news from our animal friends at Meow Mix who have offered to help once again support our Feed-A-Pet and Hurricane Relief Food Drives for 2007 with another generous large pet food donation of 35,000 lbs (40 pallets) of Meow Mix food. We would like to send a very BIG thank to Meow Mix for their continued help and support that they have given to our organization in the past and now. Thank You!

Pets & Animals in Distress is now on a deadline trying to raise the $2500 that is urgently needed to hire and pay a professional trucking company to go pick up all 40 pallets (a full 40' semi-tractor trailer load) from the Meow Mix distribution warehouse located in Decatur, Alabama by no later that June 30, and then have it transported and delivered down to Deerfield Beach in South Florida where Suddath Relocation Systems has graciously allowed us to use their distribution warehouse and loading docks, where Pets & Animals in Distress volunteers will then unload the food and coordinate and distribute the 35,000 lbs of Meow Mix food to other non-profit animal rescue organizations, rescue groups and feral colony caretakers located throughout South Florida that will help feed the homeless animals in their selected communities.

Pets & Animals in Distress is contacting you with this very URGENT donation request to ask for your financial support to help our organization raise the $2500 that is needed NOW to pay a trucking company to go and get the donated Meow Mix food picked up in Decatur, Alabama and delivered down to Deerfield Beach, in South Florida immediately.

Please help today with your "Feed-A-Pet" donation of whatever you may give. It would deeply and greatly be appreciated to help feed the animals in need.

Pets & Animals in Distress and all the animals would like to thank you in advance for your financial support that you may give in this urgent time of need.

Please Help Us Help Feed Them. Thank You So Much!

Sincerely,

Brenda Beck, President

and another site that will give six bowls of food per day to a shelter animal if you go to their site and click is http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/tpc/ERA_052907_ARS.

Hey, there is such a need in this country. People should spay their animals, enough unwanted animals are killed every day in shelters. One mama cat and her offspring will produce 500,000 offspring in the course of seven years.

Kudos to Pets and Animals in Distress, Meow Mix and Purina.

11. A little OT, but I'm looking to adopt a cocker spaniel
My beloved cocker of 15 years died the very day my little Hannah was born. In between the fits of joy I have at bearing another beautiful child, I am still very sad at the loss of my Trooper. While I'll never forget him, sometimes it helps to have another puppy to look after to recover from the loss of a beloved pet.

If anyone knows of any cockers that need homes - it doesn't have to be a puppy - please IM me. I'm in East Tennessee and would travel a shortish distance to pick it up (can't be too far. I'm on short-term diability while off with the new kidlet, so our funds for gasoline are tight).

13. I am very sorry to hear about your dog...
15 years is a good, long run for a Cocker Spaniel.

I googled Cocker Spaniel Rescue Tennessee....

Try this page:
http://adopt-a-cocker-spaniel.1-800-save-a-pet.com/

And you might meet someone on Petfinder who you might have been expecting, but who might be just right for you...

Good luck!

I've sent an email inquiring about this precious boy:

He looks very much like the boy I just lost and seems to need someone to love him. :loveya:

Here's my boy, Trooper:

And a :kick: for this thread.

18. Awwww... Very, very cute!
The dog you emailed about does look like Trooper... :-)

It took me a bunch of weeks to find my Golden Retriever by contacting rescues in my area -- each time I would inquire they had just found a home for the dog I asked about. I hope you get your first choice, but if not - be patient.

20. one question
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 03:35 PM by pitohui
why can't meow mix provide the transportation to get the food to where it is needed or is it all about free advertising/dumped outdated food on their part?

the reason i ask is, as a "little person," when i donate supplies to a charity, i am expected to get those supplies to where they can actually be useful, and if my donation instead creates an expense for the charity it is refused

22. I would imagine
that donating 35,000 lbs of food is enough of a contribution without adding to the company's bottom line. And I would assume likely a part of the contract between the company and the charity was that the charity would be under the obligation of taking care of the transport.

To be honest, I don't know. I have so many animal rescue and rights groups sending me email for donations that it's difficult to be more involved in a single one, other than those that are close to me by distance. I send money to a wide variety of them when I can, even if it's a small amount, and I hope that those who can contribute more will do so. With a fixed amount each month on disability, it would be impossible for me to do more than I already am. :)
