I said this when the Amber Alert was being debated and I'm saying it again. This "alert" system will evidently be used to track down citizens for EVERYTHING. They've already expanded it to include a new program called Citizen Observer http://www.citizenobserver.com/cov6/app/index.html
which is a hybrid, part Amber Alert part TIPS program, now they've branched out to include the tee vee..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMBER_Alert
AMBER Alerts are distributed via commercial radio stations, satellite radio, television stations, and cable TV by the Emergency Alert System (where as they are called "Child Abduction Emergency".), as well as via e-mail, electronic traffic-condition signs, and wireless device SMS text messages. The decision to declare an AMBER Alert is made by the police organization investigating the abduction. Public information in an AMBER Alert usually consists of the name and description of the abductee, a description of the suspected abductor, and a description and license plate number of the abductor's vehicle, if available.

3. I don't care if they do missing kids. I don't have a problem with that.
But they are already expanding the program. Mission creep is my problem.

6. How, exactly, are they expanding it?
I don't see anything in your post that indicates they're going to start using it to track down anything other than missing kids. And Amber Alerts have been on my TV for a long, long time. I think you need to step away from the Reynolds Wrap.....

4. no, police statism is bad...
see, they use amber (stolen kids) to terrorise political enemies, the 'no fly' list applied nudge/wink to tell men that 'confess, repent and obey' are the golden rule for living in georgebushamerka (planet oith)...
Just the fact we have to point out the untrustworthiness of the nazipoohs says the battle's over.
but then again, i despise this society totally and wanna see it wrecked asap anyway, so go bush

5. Are you saying
that they are using the Amber Alert system for purposes other than that for which it was intended?

Becuase I'm not seeing that from the listed info. It looks like separate systems to me.

10. Couple of days ago we received an "Alert Message" from the Denver Police...
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 05:01 PM by originalpckelly
about a missing boy in our area, but get this, it was around MIDNIGHT! And the damn kid just went over to his friends house and forgot to tell his mother! :grr:

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGH!

(Basically, this is a like a reverse 911 call, and I should note that the kid went missing hours earlier and was reported hours earlier, so they could have done this before even 8 PM.)
