CRAWFORD, Texas, June 16 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush blasted Democrats on Saturday for bloated annual federal spending bills and threatened to use his veto liberally, despite failing to carry out similar threats in the past.

Democrats who now control the Senate and the House of Representatives are crafting a dozen bills for more than $900 billion in government spending to fund items ranging from the space program and education to foreign aid and defense.

"I will use my veto to stop tax increases and runaway spending that threaten the strength of our economy and the prosperity of our people," Bush said in his weekly radio address. He was spending the weekend at his Texas ranch.

"By keeping taxes low and restraining federal spending, we can meet my plan to have a balanced budget by 2012," he said. "The Democrats in Congress are trying to take us in a different direction."

2. Suddenly, the administration is all about Congressional accountability.
Right down to the new "Check out the Dems earmarks on the web -- because YOU have a right to know about government spending!"

Wow.

6. EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT
DEMS CAUGHT FLAT-FOOTED AGAIN!

"Democrats have countered that they have only proposed modest increases in spending -- $22 billion over Bush's proposed $933 billion..............."

Those darn Democrats, hat in hand scuffing a toe in the dust, said, "Gee shucks Mr. Preznit, we were only looking to sneak in MODEST INCREASES to your austere and fiscally sound management of the the public treasury, cough*increase taxes*cough"

3. Why Not Throw In The Kitchen Sink
All this regime says now is for the 20% dead-enders who will watch boooshie boy eat a live baby on TV and applaud. They know their credibility is shot and their agenda is all but dead, so why not pretend the world is the way you want it to be and play to the "true believers".

Be assured this is sheet music for the Mighty Wurlitzer...talking points we're sure to hear out of the pieholes of Rushbo or Bowtie Boy or Wolfie or some of our own "moderates". There's no basis of reality involved...just more fuel for the "big lie" this regime has been narrating since it came to power.

4. While I know that Bush is simply playing politics with this point
And he is simply a pot calling the kettle black, the man does have a point. We're desperately in debt, with our economy teetering under a top heavy debt load.

Wouldn't it make some sense for the Democrats, rather than spending money like they're printing it, show some fiscal restraint? After all, does Homeland Security really need that extra ten percent bump that the Dems are giving them? Don't we really need to be practicing some fiscal restraint, at least a little bit? This would be a perfect opportunity for the Dems to help shake that image that they are freespenders, yet instead it seems that they're in a race to outdo Bush.

Yes, Bush is being a hypocrite. But hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

8. I fully recognize what Bushco has spent on the war
I also full realize that we're damn near nine trillion dollars in debt. That's the point I'm trying to make, when you're fucking drowning in red ink, you don't continue to make more of it. Instead of going above Bushboy's budget mark with bullshit appropriations to Homeland Security and earmarks, the Dems should be showing some fiscal leadership and coming in with a budget under Bush's number and come across as fiscally responsible instead of just another government official spending my money and your money in reckless fashion.

Yes, a few tens of millions of dollars seems minor compared to Bush's spending, but first, every little bit counts and second, those few tens of millions of dollars will morph to hundreds of millions quick once you start adding all of those interest payments.

The hard truth is that we're broke. When you are broke you don't keep spending, you tighten your belt and try to find more funding. Rather than overspending, the Dems should underspend, and restore the tax rates to the pre-Bush level.

Sorry for making fiscal sense.

9. What would you cut?
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 10:02 AM by Patsy Stone
Has there never been a budget increase included from year to year? If not for cost of living alone?

I'm not an economist, but when he's spending my money like a drunken sailor on killing people, when he depleted a budget surplus left to him by a Democrat, and when he chooses not to fund American interests in the name of the War on Terror, and blames the Democrats for wanting to, that's politics -- plain and simple.

5. "The Dictator" keeps dictating...
"MY veto..."

"MY plan..."

"MY decision..."

"MY addministration..."

"MY government..."

MY problem?... NO, sorry....The Dictator says it's the Democrats' problem. (You wouldn't expect Bush to accept ANY responsibility for his actions, would you?)

Bush is one WEAK, INSECURE, LITTLE BOY who has only learned to blame others for his mistakes. :banghead:

Is there any Democrat (in Congress) who might consider saying this?
