LTTE: history will record Dick Cheney as one of our greatest leaders
Bartender, I'll have what he's having . . .

=====

History is observed best from a distance.

During Ronald Reagan's second term there were many (in the opposition party) who lamented the horrible state of the nation and the disgrace that he and his administration had brought to our country. His vice president, George H.W. Bush, was seen as a marginal player and was insulted openly at the Democratic National Convention by Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., with his famous "Where was George?" speech.

Again we find ourselves at the end of the second term of a United States president, and again we find a rush to write the history of him and his administration.

I'm not sure what we will be saying about President George W. Bush in 20 years.

But, I do know the answer if the same question is asked about his vice president ("Where was Cheney?").

Dick Cheney is one of this administration's greatest assets.

He is a brilliant man with a tremendous grasp of the complexities of the current world situation in which he and others serve.

His contributions to governing the nation and running what has become our most unpopular war will not be recognized in his lifetime. However, a generation of Americans will, in the long run, be grateful for the role he played in fighting those who would destroy our very way of life.

While at the end of his term he may not be our most popular vice president, he is, without a doubt, one of most capable leaders ever to serve in that position, and, as history will eventually record, one of our greatest ones.

Dale Robbins

7. Why do they always fall back on that "destroy our way of life" lie?
They don't give a fuck about our way of life, and have no interest in interfering with it, as long as we don't interfere with theirs. The problem is, we push American style democracy in areas where it's simply not practical or even possible, and they want to get fucking rid of us. Not calculus here, more like pre-algebra.

8. "American" style democracy? The kind where Bush Jr beats Al Gore?
The kind with WiFi voting machines and closed software? The kind that cages voters? The kind that puts too few and too defective machines in minority districts?

12. How to become a great leader:
Stay out of sight and pull the strings of your most
obedient puppet.

Can't say it didn't work, but "great?" Like Rasputin and Yuri Andropov were "great," maybe....

22. And look what happened to Rasputin
OK, it took several gunshots, poison and drowning...and look what happened to the weak puppet he played, the Czar. Funny how history works.

13. It is the beginng of Cheney's 2008 candidacy. Mark my words.
The Dems won't admit Impeachment is on the table because that would create a massive assault of negative reactions. Meanwhile 36 investigations ....

The Reps won't admit Cheney is their candidate because that would start all the negative campaigning. They know a candidate's negative numbers are the most important and difficult to overcome (hence, the swiftboat campaign at a key moment in 2004). Cheney is just stalling announcing to avoid providing more time to increase the negative numbers, his own swiftboating. When the party and the nation need his experience, he will make the sacrifice and run. A giant military crisis, of course, to time the announcement, would be an ideal context.

Check out the PowerPoint that Rove was using, in violation of the Hatch Act. It was shown to promote R candidates in 2008, and it shows how war time benefits the incumbent party. The war in Iraq--or where ever it will be in 2008--is already built into the White House's political election planning. That also infers that Cheney is the guy.
