Is Al Gore "running"?
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 05:17 PM by Labors of Hercules
Al Gore has given the same calculated response (in various versions)to the question of whether he will "run for President"...

"I have no plans to be a candidate for president again, I don't expect to ever be a candidate for president again. I haven't made a so-called Sherman statement because it just seems unnecessary, kind of odd to do that." -Al Gore, appearing on This Week

So that's it, right? He says he's not running, right?

...an acknowledgement that the answer has never been a clear yes or no, but a tightrope act with which we are all too familiar. And yet, it is tantalizing. Who knew Al Gore was such a great tease? The worse the world gets, the more we want to know his political ambitions... and the less he will tell us.

Are we to believe that a man who has spent most of his life in public office, like his father before him, is happy to turn away at the very moment the country -- nay, the world -- is clamoring for him to step into the breach?

Are we to believe that such a man is perfectly content to walk away from the table, with his last campaign forever emblazoned in textbooks as the biggest miscarriage of justice in electoral history?

Are we to believe that this man, with his Oscar nominated documentary, his Time magazine cover, his # 1 Bestselling book, his tv network, and, oh yeah, a 2007 Nobel Peace Prize nomination, would rather not rule the most powerful nation on earth?

So, is Al running?

If you ask me, I say YES!!! "I mean, please. Let's get real. Of course he's running."
:woohoo:

4. After reading "The Assault on Reason" ...
which offers an in-depth analysis of what's gone wrong with our country and lays out the steps we need to take to fix things, I honestly believe he will run. He KNOWS this country - our democracy - is in deep trouble. He has obviously thought long and hard about it and it disturbs him deeply. I don't think he can turn his back on that, especially when you consider this: he won in 2000 and the current issues facing our country would not exist if he had been allowed to take his rightful place as our leader. That must be eating at him; it would certainly eat at me. I'm not talking about "losing" an election - he's moved on. I'm talking about what has happened to this country since he "lost" that election. How can it not break his heart when he KNOWS he SHOULD have been our President?

I'll be very shocked - and incredibly disappointed - if he doesn't run. :patriot:

8. It seems, when he says he has "no plans to run"...
He implies that he's not going to run, but he's going to seek the presidency outside of the normal way of doing it. He plans to win, but not by "running" the way the other candidates are running.

Dunno, whaddaya think?

12. Ooooh ... that's an interesting idea
He's running by not running, so technically, he's telling us the truth when he says he's not running ... but he does intend to be president.

He's the only person who could officially enter the race late and still have a good chance of winning. By not actually running, he's avoiding the usual crap that comes with being a candidate. His book, the Live Earth concert and the climate crisis issue in general give him an opportunity to speak to the people through the press and get his message across - without really getting slammed by the GOP, the media and other Dem candidates.

If you're right about his strategy, then Al Gore is absolutely brilliant! He found a way to not only beat the media and the political machine, but to use them to his advantage. B-)
