Which GOP candidate scares you the most?
http://www.firedoglake.com/2007/06/17/who-is-the-scariest-gop-presidential-candidate/

Rudy Giuliani — Matt Taibbi recently made the case that the former NYC mayor is actually “worse than Bush.” Giuliani is autocratic, thin-skinned, and self-absorbed. He’s inexperienced, ignorant about policy specifics, and his only selling point (performance on 9/11) doesn’t stand up well to scrutiny. His campaign is built around demagoguery — driven solely by fear.

* John McCain — A shadow of his former self, the senator appears to be a man who’ll do anything to win. McCain is combative and intolerant of dissent. He defends the indefensible and lashes out angrily at anyone who dares to disagree with him. He’s become dishonest, condescending, and egotistical, while pandering shamelessly to some of the worst elements in Republican politics.

* Mitt Romney — The man appears to have no real convictions at all. On most of the major political issues of the day, Romney believed the exact opposite fairly recently, and has struggled to explain his metamorphosis from moderate governor to far-right candidate.

* Fred Thompson — The actor/lobbyist/senator doesn’t seem to have any real rationale for seeking the presidency, other than the belief he might win. Thompson is at least as phony as Romney — the red truck story should be humiliating to him — and developed a Bush-like reputation for being lazy and incurious. He considers moving to northern Virginia “getting out of Washington” and his most valuable skill seems to be his ability to pretend to be someone else.

4. You need to add that they are all sure they are right
I just hate people that are sure they are right about every thing and know about every thing. It may be that I know a little about a lot and am sure I am wrong about most but so be it. This having faith that you are right about every thing is scary.

3. Mitt
The way he uses his religion to appear moral while supporting murder and torture. It reminds me of the bushes.

16. And the ever-popular Jeb Bush will be his running mate.

If we don't get rid of electronic voting, we will be set up for a November surprise, with the corporate press geared up to say the American people were "not ready" for Hillary (because of her gender) or Barak (because of his race.)

21. A Mormon and a Catholic?
Can't happen.

Mitt will need to choose Jesus as his running mate.

24. Roman Catholic bishops attended Bush's Inagural Prayer Breakfast hosted
by the Reverend Sun Yong Moon, who claims the Virgin Mary had an affair with the husband of one of her cousins, producing Jesus. If that doesn't offend the good bishops, what would?

It's all about power.

6. I can't choose.
How can you choose from a group which is hellbent on arguing that people should choose them because they are the biggest prayin', slap-women-and-teach-nonwhites-their-places, war mongerin' neocon with fingers itchin' on a hairtrigger. We should not fear them--we should stand against them and those who follow them--and they are a minority.

9. Regarding the likelihood of beating a Dem, or just general piggery?
With respect to the likelihood of beating a Democrat, Fred Thompson is most troubling. He could conceivably haul the red states like a pickup full of manure.

If Giuliani survives the primary, then I'll be scared. I don't think he appeals to the Republican feral base and probably won't win the nomination, but he could do well in the general election, particularly if bin-Laden releases another of his entertaining tapes.

Romney could conceivably win the nomination, but I'm not terribly concerned about Mittens in the general election. Seems like the 2008 Michael Dukakis.

10. Mitt!
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 05:28 AM by JenniferJuniper
Of all the SWM (Stupid White Men) listed above, he is the scariest. I'm convinced he has no soul and may have actually come from some sort of Rod Serlingish Build-Your-Own-Right-Wing-President kit. His Mormonism should be a fatal flaw, seeing as radical Christians think it's a cult (ha. Hello, Pot, I'm Kettle), but considering the field, he may very well survive and become the nominee. And if he does, I'd say he is very electable. I've heard too many middle aged women in my office gush, "oh, he just LOOKS sooo presidential....."

12. The slight yet extant potential for Ahnold to make another leap up scares me.
Create a crisis (Enron in California, #1 BushCo campaign contributors) and Ahnold is Governor.

Create another crisis, nationally this time...

Nah, those people never repeat themselves. :sarcasm:

Create a vacuum and fill it with whatever you've planned to fill it with...

13. All of the above
I must admit, however, Romney accomplishes something we can't: he fractionates the evangelical vote.
I've heard more Jesus radio than I care to. They frequently busted on Mormons and their doctrines.
But the thought of any 'Con outside the violent ward gives me the creeps.

He is a sock puppet for the same cabal that put bush in power.

So are some of the others, but the MACHINE will package him and his dumb goofus smile like they did reagan, and just might pull it off - again.

22. To be honest, none of them...I can't see any of them being in
the WH after the next election.

There is not one of them that will discuss issues, they are all about themselves and busy beating down the opposition.

On the other side, I have yet to see a D candidate that sparks my interest. I would thin that w/all of them out there, someone would get down to brass tacks and deal with problems the nation faces.

Besides, for me, it is far too early back anyone, right now it is all about posturing, and they are all posturing poorly. If Jesus Christ was running as an R, (fat chance on that...:D ), I still wouldn't vote GOP.

AFAIC, they ALL suck at this point...x(

28. Thompson
Fred Thompson is the biggest threat. The corporate media will give him a free ride as they want another one of their own elected.

A ticket of Thompson / Giuliani or Thompson / Romney might be difficult to beat at Thompson brings in the right and sweeps middle America and the other two could make the GOP competitive outside this region.

Thompson he is the threat!
