a morning question on W.J. - 'has god blessed america' - (for real

Washington Journal had 2 evangelical baptist preachers on to discuss whether god had blessed america or not. that was the question to us the audience.

it was boring

a waste of time listening to a discussion about something that doesn't exist.

many callers seemed to think we (US) were special and deserved god's blessing. I'm not kidding.

may W.J. never do that to us again.

1. Oh if I only had a dime
...for every time over the course of history somebody went to battle declaring that god was on their side...and then lost the war.

3. I KNOW! I couldn't believe it either. There were actually callers
who thought not only do we have God's blessing but than we deserve it more. Of course, there were some more reasoned responses saying God doesn't choose sides.

With the wealth of topics in the forefront, why did WJ choose this topic? Hedious.

9. Curiosity has me respond to this:
"...a waste of time listening to a discussion about something that doesn't exist."

Can you prove that, or is merely an assumption on your part?

I am not trying to be facetious here, but all of the evidence presented, neither proves nor disproves the existence of a supreme being.

As for the question WJ had, I think it was ludicrous at best, and beneath what they usually present, but I'm open to the existence of a supreme being, no empirical proof either way makes it a possibility at the least.

Just wondering, and I'm open to all thoughts on this, I just have to wonder why such a statement should be taken as fact, when others are questioned...:)

17. I have yet to see any hard evidence there is/are no god(s)...
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 02:46 PM by rasputin1952
that's the point of my query, there is no empirical evidence either way, but you sounded so firm about your statetment...:)

on edit, since I posted this on the fly....

I am not trying to start a theist/athiest situation, and I don't think C-SPAN was doing all that much of a service by usimg religion as a springboard, but the certainty that some have that a supreme being does not exist fascinates me...I'm just trying to figure where that certainty comes from.

19. "Land of Reality" is another hard statement to "prove"...
Reality, by it's very nature is what one decides it to be. Each person sees different version of life and how things w/in that life affect them. There are some truths to said reality, one of them is that one can choose the "reality they wish.

What brings you to the thought that your reality is the correct one, do you have proof as to your claim there "is no god(s). If not, it cannot be truth, it can only be speculation. If you speculate there is no supreme being, that is fine by me, I have no argument w/that, but since there is no proof there is no deity, nor is there proof there is, everything rests on speculation, and faith that ones speculation is the right one.

Point is, we just don't know, so it is better to see other points of view as viable as our own when situations involving various forms of faith exist. To simply dismiss another's view w/o consideration, is not in the best interest of reaching truth. It is fine to see another point of view, but one must be able to back it up w/something tangible.

11. "American Exceptionalism/American Triumphalism" is such a crock
I hate the way they've managed to dredge that old hokum out of the muck and made it look good to so many idiots her in the States. It does not serve us well.

13. If there is a God he deserted America in 2000
He let bush become king and it ruined our country. So how can any body say God blessed this country. I think He must have put a curse on it.

14. God rewards the righteous and Allah favors the compassionate ......

And yes God and Allah are the same entity.

IMHO God is not on either side in Iraq and
He/She/It is not a happy camper right now.

16. God doesn't play favorites. If the US deserves blessings, they will come.
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 01:20 PM by Stevepol
One of the callers I heard argued pretty much as I've thought when I have seen these yellow ribbons on cars with this God Bless America sign.

Christ said it best: Whatever you would that men do unto you, do you also to them.

If the US wants to be blessed, then let the US be a blessing to other countries. We will reap all kinds of blessings. It has nothing to do w/ asking special favors. It's a LAW, and when you put yourself on the wrong side of a law, it's trouble city. Try jumping off the tallest bldg in NYC and praying for God to change the Law of Gravity for your sake, because you and God hit it off so well and you're such a great favorite of His. You'll hit the ground with exactly the same velocity and whether you are helped by hitting a bush or an awning to slow your fall has nothing to do w/ God's blessing. When your country's foreign policy is immoral and illegal, asking God to bless your country is like asking for snowballs in Hell.

If a country attacks, invades, and occupies another country which has not attacked it, then that country is not going to be blessed, and the religion of that country or the pride and patriotism of the people of that country have nothing to do with it.
