in a Purity Ball thread a while back. I was shocked at how many DUers (well, maybe DUers) were supportive of Dad being obsessed with a ceremony celebrating his daughter's intact hymen. Mom was nowhere to be found. Dad's date was his daughter. And you should see the photos. The little girls, and they are little...they shouldn't even be involved in the whole "purity" discussion at such a young age, are wearing strapless evening gowns, with their hair done up like beauty queens, and, of course, JonBenet makeup.
The whole "ownership" aspect is repugnant to me. The girl is chattel. She's Daddy's property. And Dad's the gatekeeper who guards her "purity" until she can be "given" to her husband.
And Daddy is obsessed with his daughter's genitalia.
I'm so glad I was so lucky with my parents.
My heart goes out to these little girls.

Now, I'm not sure what to do with them. I don't think they're edible.

These "balls" are NOT about the dad. They are first and foremost about FUN, not making a creepy political statement. Yuccck! Who wants to go to a dance with their dad??? Dad has to let go as it should also be about the kids emerging adulthood and consequent responsibilities. I worry about the signal it sends about the Dad's control over the daughter's sexuality. Very creepy. At some point parents need to back off and trust they have taught their kids right from wrong by this point. If they don't, they will cripple their kids move to adulthood.

I have a cousin that was taught this and it's done her very well. She's had a couple of guys get mad when she told them that she wouldn't have sex with them because they were not worth her, but it's given her a good self image and made her very selective in who she dates and sleeps with.

Edit to add: This is not the saving of onesself to be given to someone. This is giving someone the attitude that there are very few people that are worth having sex with.
