There are people in my area "shooting off" fireworks (pronounced farworks in my area).
Is there a connection between this and Republican-ism?

10. So you live in Missouri; why are you surprised? I live in TX and it's
about to start here, but I live on the cusp where it's legal. 4th of July is more normal to me, but when they do it a week before NY Eve and a week after, that flummoxes me. I guess they do it because they can, and has nothing to do with their politics.

22. It's an age old issue here in MO
From the Kansas City Journal

June 21, 1907

TO STOP EARLY CELEBRATIONS.
Chief Hayes Issues Orders Owing to Many Complaints.

Chief Hayes issued the annual Fourth of July order yesterday. It became necessary, this early, from the fact that complaints have been daily pouring into all of the nine police stations of persons "forcing the season" by discharging firearms, shooting firecrackers and, in a few instances, sending up sky rockets.

The chief speaks of the danger of handling explosives of any kind, and draws attention to the city ordinance governing the practice, No. 24883. "Warn all persons violating the order," he says, "and for the second offense arrest them. In the case of small boys give them a good scare for the first offense, and if repeated send them to the Detention home for a trial later by the juvenile court."

20. Missouri
Hi,
I drive to Missouri every year to get the good stuff, i.e. bottle rockets and all kinds of stuff that goes up in the air and explodes. I don't quite get the fireworks laws here. Can buy those "artillery shells" which could blow someone's head off, but can't get bottle rockets. I love the fourth, mostly because I have fond memories of it when I was a kid. Not much of that had to do with fireworks, but I still love them.

Used to have some people down the street that would blow off big stuff everynight for like 2 weeks, never bothered me much, but does bother my cat.

Peace

5. Consider yourself lucky
In my parents' neighborhood, holidays like the 4th are celebrated by firing shotguns and pistols into the air.

6. Heh... I've got you beat.
Someone around here shoots off ONE firework every night. Just one and every night. I'm not sure why. It doesn't really bother me except that one of my dogs is deathly afraid of loud booms (thunderstorms, fireworks, etc.) and she comes running in like a scalded cat every night and "hides" under my feet for an hour.

17. Wish it were only hiding under my feet.
Ours tries to burrow behind furniture, the tv, anything. The Melatonin our vet suggested doesn't lessen her panic attacks a bit.

21. i love fireworks with the exception of firecrackers, those suck.
even when someone lights up a whole brick of them at one time they still still suck, just loud---no zazz at all, the firework for the unimaginative.

Just a couple, we have some cool stuff saved for the 4th, but we also have a bunch of 11 yr old boys who dig this stuff. All safe, my husband does it for them. It's cool.

24. Milwaukee had a fireworks show tonight
We have one almost every weekend during the summer as we have lots of festivals at the lakefront.

People like it. We can hear them from our house fifteen miles away.

I guess they're all republicans in Milwaukee.
