$39,500,000,000.00 PROFIT in 2006. not revenue, PROFIT.
here's some very crude (groan!) math for some perspective:
there's a mere 300,000,000 people in the united states, so that's $131.67 PROFIT for every man, woman, and child in the u.s., whether a customer or not.
that's $526.67 PROFIT for every family of 4 in the united states, whether a customer or not.
let's just assume that half of the households both have cars and are customers, the other half either have no cars or prefer one of exxonmobil's competitors. that makes their profit $1,053.33 for every customer household.
granted, non-customers give them business when they use the bus, e.g., corporations are customers as well, and exxonmobil does get overseas profits, too. but i thought this perspective might show just how obscene their profits are.
on average, over $1,000 per customer household goes to ONE COMPANY.
