The people in office in Washington DC are 'smarter than the average bear, booboo' as one great philosopher once said. So I pose the following for your consideration.

How do the criminals currently holding down fort plan to quiet the riot after January 2009? What do you think the people working for Bush and Cheney are thinking?

(I am realist enough to understand Bush and Cheney will never face justice for their actions. This just is not going to happen. Though I can fantasize about rendering your president and vice president to the International Court Of Justice in The Hague (Netherlands) for trial as war criminals and re-establishing the rule of law within USA.)

But think about it. As Bush and Cheney waltz into the sunset with their blood-soaked ill gotten gains, laughing at the rest of us, those who helped them to get away with their crimes are going to be feeling rather exposed. Don't you think?

The incoming administration will not have to be willing to take the heat and protect the underlings left behind. The underlings will watch as the bosses leave the office. Now what? The laws are quite clear. Giving an unlawful order is against the law. And oh so many orders have been illegal.

And Congress is in the hands of the opposition political party. Now is the time to be planning for more investigations of the criminal activity and malfeasance. As example, Gonzales has shrub's protection. Hurrah. When shrub walks out the door for the last time and Gonzales will be on his own.

Like so many more underlings, no one will be there to protect them anymore. Maybe this is the time to be trying to make deals with the legal system for protection in exchange for higher ups. (Maybe F Thompson can play a scene in 'Law And Order.') The legal system will be coming for the lower order crooks. About the only way so many little fish n Washington can be protected to keep their mouths shut, is to cancel the November 2008 elections. I mean shrub cannot give blanket presidential pardons (can he?).



How about a betting pool on the date of announcement on the cancellation of the republican elections and the establishment of empire?

Unless there are prosecutions, many of the criminals in this regime will steal into the dark...having done their thing and still in a position to profit from it.

You assume these goons thing long term...they don't. If they did, they would have planned their plunder of the Middle East far better...at least keeping the invasion popular enough to keep it going and creating the instability the neo-cons realy want. Most aren't thinking beyond the next 24 hours, yet into next year or beyond. They're too busy stuffing their pockets and screwing others to care. And, for the most part, they'll get away. Few are under the media spotlight and will continue to be "players".

I honestly think boooshie has had enough playing "preznit"...and crashcart has put enough judges and operatives in place within the federal government that it will take years to really root out the cancer caused by the past 6 years. I suspect many Repugnicans will look forward to a defeat as from it comes the seeds of the rise of the next round of neo-cons.

Having Democrats in control will give these dead-enders targets to snipe at and from the safety of their right wing "institutes", they'll still get nice paychecks and form the next shadow government.

In 2000, I remember hearing the same kind of fears from right wingers about Clinton cancelling the elections. I don't think this gang is that smart or thinking that far in advance.

Cheney thinks long term and he is above the law. The rest of the followers are really the ones at risk. They know their sh!t is flaky. Those involved in any criminal conspiracy know they will take fall as long as they stay within jurisdiction.

Quite honestly, is there any other option open to the junta, except to seize power through a coup?

Yes, cheney's current power is substantial and intimidating...and has been long-term. But that long-term was formed 30 years ago and he refuses to adjust the theories he's lived with the realities he's facing. It explains a lot of his actions and I suspect is a good way to predict where he's going.

Yes, he believes he's above the law since he's worked hard to change them. We have no idea what signing statements and other landminds are out there that are intended to give him cover...but but not digging for the answers we can't expect to either learn the extend of the corruption or to end it.

One hallmark of cheney's ilk is they put their own bacon ahead of anything else...and I sense that once his power ceases to be as intimidating or dominating, we'll see the knives come out in his direction. We won't have to take him down, his own will...all we'll have to do is feed them the facts to follow through. Too much damage has occured, too many people are wise to what's happening as to stand back and think one man can be so onimpotent.

100 years ago, my grandfather fled a country he felt was repressive for one he thought was his last hope. I'm not about to give up on his belief or mine either. Who said any other country is any more equal or doesn't have its own injustices? I'll fight for what's left of this country while I still can.
