Edited on Sat Jun-23-07 08:55 AM by Laura PackYourBags
This is worth repost. Let's flood Gore's office with a zillion letters.

Buy a card, buy a stamp, send a postcard, send a scrap of paper !

But send something ! Ask him to run ! Maybe, just maybe, it could mean
you could someday fish and swim in the ponds and lakes you grew up fishing and
swimming in !

WRITE THIS WEEKEND - TELL HIM TO PLEASE, PLEASE RUN:
Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203

2. Do you think that Al Gore ...
is smart enough to make his own decisions? Your post implies that he isn't.

4. How so?????
This is just letting him know personally how many support him. Because polls are not necessarily going to reflect reality......

Your concern has been duly noted.

Seems logical to me.

22. I don't think that and two minutes for a postcard
would be mutually exclusive. Not sure why you seem to be getting your back up over this, but it's your privilege to do so, of course. It's mine to stop listening to it.

29. Well, It seems you are the one "getting your back up"
You obviously aren't doing anything else or you wouldn't feel the need to get defensive. It was a simple suggestion that any "supporter" of the man should agree with not attack someone for. Unless of course, not all who keep pounding on him to run incessantly are really "supporters" but rather others who only want the conversation on one track. Hard to really tell on the Internet. I also didn't say they were mutually exclusive (although I do think sending "musical cards" to him is a bit embarrassing,) but I sure notice no one responds that they are doing anything else either, so I guess my point was made. And by all means please do take advantage of the priviledge you have since you seem to be so bothered by simple comments.

I object to your unsubstantiated inferences, both the "aren't doing anything else" and the "get(ting) defensive." I don't believe either can be supported from my posts on this thread, but that's just me.....

You can reply if you want (of course), but just FYI, I won't be looking at this thread again.

Unless it is about his environmental work... such as this...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1168933&mesg_id=1168933

That goes to the cellar pretty fast here. Wasn't there also just a thread on this? And they say they aren't harrassing the man?

27. Hi. I am the OP
I truly understand where you are coming from. I also truly understand the horrors
of what has happened to our environment. And, I have written my share of letters
to congress - only to get form letters and responses that had nothing to do
with what I was writing about in the first place. There comes a point when
many of us believe that you can not make an impact anymore. That is, unless
you can come up with a stong bloc. I have often wished that we could do that
here - en masse - make a difference. But it is very difficult to capture
that force in numbers - people sign on, people sign off, at any given moment
here - you may have a serious crowd or a lighthearted one.

They say the number one way to get someone's attention today is through a letter sent US Mail.

If there is even a slight possibility that thousands of letters arriving in Gore's office
might make him decide to run - who care's if our attempt may sound frivolous. At least,
from my perspective, it feels like there's more of a chance than doing nothing.

31. Are you then supporting Live Earth?
The Alliance for Climate Protection? The Climate Project? Getting your carbon footprint down? Doing anything to send letters or take action locally? Planting a tree? See, the thing is, I am tired of people on all of these blogs always falling over themselves in what seems like a contest to many in regards to this "lovefest" because he is "popular", but when it comes down to REALLY talking about his heart and soul and the REAL progress he and we could make if everyone helped him NOW it doesn't ring a bell. Therefore, it appears obvious to me that to many this is not about the environment, this is about a political agenda or something else.

And in all honesty you can send all of the pretty scraps of paper you want, but he doesn't read them to my knowledge. You will get a form letter from his office as well telling you he dis not planning to be a candidate again and asking you to actually help him on this crisis now as he is very busy actually doing something about it, and I believe we should all be writing letters about that as well. Of course, suggesting that only gets you insulted on this forum if you even dare to not go along with the crowd and suggest exactly what he does. Go figure.

My logic is that if you (in general) truly see the urgency of that horror you called it, then you would really support his environmental endeavors, pick up that mantle yourself, and understand where I and others are coming from instead of getting so nasty to those who do see he is leading now and are helping him now... so alas and with all due respect, I don't really think you do see that based on your response. Hopefully when you all get that form letter in response asking you to help him with this crisis now you will support him instead of pushing him, because right now it is THAT important.

32. Well, all I can say to all of this is that doing something about
protecting the environment -- acting now -- AND writing to tell him we want him to run are not mutually exclusive. Just because someone wants to write him doesn't automatically prove that they do nothing else to improve the environmental situation.

But, chastising and belittling anyone else who might want to try something that will only take a couple minutes AND convincing people to listen to you ARE mutually exclusive.

Peace out, and maybe lighten up a bit??? Or not.

Laura

You wouldn't again have chosen to chastise me for asking it, you would have answered it. But nevermind.

23. How weird is this?
Just yesterday I had an incredible urge to start writing a letter to Al Gore. In it I talk about how I want to do more to help the environment, but since I'm spending all my time and money just surviving because of lousy government policies, I only able to change light bulbs. It's halfway done and I was wondering where I should send it, and here's the address!
