Is Ahmadinejad toast? BBC reports criticism of his leadership mounts in Iran media
We could have told the Iranian people that if you want your country to work, don't elect incompetent one-track ideologues.

Criticism of Ahmadinejad mounts
By Frances Harrison
BBC News, Teheran

Pressure appears to be mounting on Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

His main political rival, former president Hashemi Rafsanjani, implicitly criticised his slow move towards privatisation of the economy.

Hardliners in parliament also appear split with many of Mr Ahmadinejad's former supporter now critical of him.

It is becoming clear that the green light has been given from the very top for open debate of President Ahmadinejad's record in power.

Normally compliant newspaper editorials have suddenly started criticising his handling of the economy and his undiplomatic language.

Now the former president, Hashemi Rafsanjani, has voiced public criticism of President Ahmadinejad's tendency towards a highly centralised state-controlled economy....

1. He's a moron
He embarrassed his country with his Holocaust conference and the large number of mindlessly stupid statements. He's a pathetic paper tiger. Like Bush but without the means to back up his psychopathic agenda.

2. He's only toast if we keep our mouths shut and stop saber-rattling.
As long as we do, and if we go to war with them, then the hardliners win in that country.

The way you bring Iran to its knees is economically, because there is actually an influential merchant class in that country that wants to make money and doesn't give two sh1ts about the nuclear issue. Some of their "moderate" leaders and politicians represent these business interests. The majority of the educated youth don't have jobs and are going abroad to take advantage of opportunities they otherwise would not have at home.

Right now Iran is hurting economically, but people will rally around Ahmadinejad if we keep saber-rattling.

5. I agree
That's common sense, but the freepers think the most effective way of inducing change is to threaten and bomb.

3. This Criticism is Not New
They've been trying to portray Iran as an axis of evil when it's not true. They only elected this ideologue is because of all the saber rattling from this administration. They felt they needed their own madman to protect them from our madman.

4. He can't be - we need him to be a booger man
Have you ever noticed how the * administration likes to personalize these issues. It was easy to oppose "terrorists" but even easier to hate Osama. We didn't have a problem with Iraq but we sure hated Saddam Hussein. North Korea is only a problem because of the looney tunes dictator there. If the guy we have demonized gets kicked out by the Iranian electorate we have no reason to attack their country.
Much easier to get everybody pissed at a person than a country.

6. It makes no difference.
* has decided on war, and the Iranian clerics could put Amadinijad up against a wall and shoot him, and it wouldn't stop *.

Just like Saddam in the last days before invasion, we will see all kinds of conciliatory gestures from Iran, possibly including dumping the president, but it won't make any difference.
