Surge of suicide blasts in Iraq kill 27
By BUSHRA JUHI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD - Suicide bombers struck a central Baghdad hotel and four other targets across Iraq on Monday, in a surge of attacks that left at least 27 people dead, authorities reported.

The attack was the fifth in a string of suicide and other bombings, from Mosul and Beiji in the north to Hillah in the south. Two were aimed at U.S. targets, but no U.S. casualties were reported.

The deadliest occurred at a police station in Beiji, 155 miles north of Baghdad, at 8:30 a.m., when at least nine civilians were killed and 21 others wounded, police and medical officials reported.

American troops share the post with the local police, on the main road in central Beiji. One wounded man said random gunfire came from the building after the blast. "I was at the grocery market when the explosion occurred and I ran with others to the site to see if there were any casualties and I was shot by fire from police station," said Khalaf Salim, 40.

An Emerging Refugee Crisis

Although the insurgent issue has long dominated discussions on Syria's role in Iraq, the increasing flow of Iraqi refugees into Syria may have a far more destabilizing effect. Over the past two years, Iraqi refugees streaming into Syria have increased sharply, swelling the population by more than six percent. Current estimates of Iraqi refugees in Syria range between 1.2 and 1.4 million, with an estimated 40,000 new refugees arriving monthly, nearly double the rate of only a few months ago.

3. What will they come up with in Sept. to keep our troops entrenched with this bullseye target?
With a son in the reserves who may have to go to Iraq in Sept. again and try to rebuild their infrastructure - I ask why? The last time he went his group couldn't get the supplies to them because they were stolen before they got them! And there were many of Halliburton's people there among others that were making 10 times what he made in a month in a week! What will the Hawks use the September to justify this and how can Hillary want to keep them there if she is elected? Where is our so-called ally Saudi Arabia? While our treasure is being ravaged we sit back and ask why? Is anyone listening?
