I had a personal experience with a buddy of mine whose entire personality changed once he suffered through an IED hit, it was a gruesome explosion but the majority of the force of the blast was concentrated on the driver and front passenger (a translator) who were both killed.

The happy emotionally vibrant and intellectually stimulating guy I knew was replaced with a somewhat sullen loner.
