Think back. Remember when Democrats were in the minority in the Senate? What, a year or so ago? And remember the bullshit those same Senate Democrats shoveled at us when the Bush Crime Family - through its chief spokesman - nominated yet another federal judge who was nothing if not determined to hasten fascism where the democratic experiment once struggled for air? And not just appellate court judges; all the way to the US Supreme Court. And, remember what those Senate Democrats said over and over when we begged them to use the filibuster to stop those nominees? Something to the effect of waiting until Bush nominated a really bad one - like, maybe a child killer? Or, now, now, folks; a sitting president has the right to nominate whomever he wants. And remember how we screamed and stomped our feet on the floor and sent emails and made phone calls and threatened to withhold our votes and our money if those Senate Democrats ignored us? Remember?

So, now check out the most recent damage those Senate Democrats ensured we would have to deal with because of their cowardice. As The New York Times points out in today's lead editorial, "The Supreme Court hit the trifecta yesterday: Three cases involving the First Amendment. Three dismaying decisions by Chief Justice John Roberts’s new conservative majority. Chief Justice Roberts and the four others in his ascendant bloc used the next-to-last decision day of this term to reopen the political system to a new flood of special-interest money, to weaken protection of student expression and to make it harder for citizens to challenge government violations of the separation of church and state. In the process, the reconfigured court extended its noxious habit of casting aside precedents without acknowledging it . . ."

They are being paid off (power? money? agenda?) to hasten even more so this society's accelerating descent into a totalitarian form of corporatism that tolerates neither challenge nor dissent; neither truth nor justice.

The way I see it, WE are Kitty Genovese, screaming for our lives while Congress sits back and does nothing.

At that time people were appalled at the conduct of the witnesses, and it probably contributed a lot to the (unfair) perception of NYers as callous/rude/antisocial. Hey, I got 2 emails from friends today about the CA DMV fines going up on July 1. I guess it's not a hoax?

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted
on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be
double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07.
Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

Had a bad day yesterday, had to quit my job after one day as they made me do a full shift of leaflet delivering with no break and then they nearly killed me by having me driven home by some maniac in a sports car who thought the roads of Milton Keynes were a racetrack or something. Then my bassist and drummer decided they weren't interested anymore, so yet again I've gotta get me a new band lineup.
And to cap it all, being an on/off WWE fan since I was a kid, the shock of what happened with Benoit.

WH response to the students' letter and they yelled at the TV! I'm not so sure that I'm a good role model anymore! We watched a documentary Sun. or Mon.night On LinkTV or Free SpeechTV about the current history of torture and they were appalled and disgusted and saying very nasty things about the people in the documentary who didn't regret what they'd done in their countries. The School of the Americas and the torture classes were mentioned more than once, as was the fact that what is being done in Gitmo and in Iraq is just more of the same.

No wonder the young'uns get exasperated with us grown-ups who they thought had all of this sorted out and fixed. It's sad when I have to tell them - it's up to you to inform yourselves as have I, never give up no matter how hopeless it may seem, and just keep fighting the good fight! :hi: :hug:

There have been a lot of threads about Narcissistic Personality Disorder. In short, to someone classified as NPD, you as a person are no more significant than a table or a rock or a block of wood.
