Check out my review of Sicko (and read about how I almost went to Cuba with Michael Moore)
A few months ago, I received a call from a friend in my activist network named Julie who informed me that Michael Moore was in town filming footage for his upcoming documentary Sicko.

She said that Moore was looking for extras who were not insured and were not afraid to travel to Cuba at a moment’s notice. Progressives who would not let an annoying little policy like the Cuban embargo distract them from the true mission at stake.

“You’re the first person I thought of, but I was hesitant to call you because you’re a journalist,” she said. “You have to promise me you won’t tell anybody about this. It has to remain a secret.”

I chose to forsake a solid journalistic scoop for a chance to be in the movie, not to mention a chance to return to Cuba, which I had visited a year earlier with another group of activists (that’s another story). At the time, I believed it was my patriotic duty to do all I could do to expose the American healthcare system for what it was -- a corrupt, profiteering enterprise that would sell its own mother for an extra dollar.

1. Good review -- however you did leave out the bit about the Brit doctor
That was in sharp contrast to the Cuban doctors.

The young British doctor is making near 200K per year, has a sweet ride, and a half a million dollar home. And all of THAT on a nationalized health care program. At least one poster here has worried about his income as a doctor - but this guy seems to be doing BETTER with national health.

And the brit doctor gets BONUSES if his patients are HEALTHIER at the end of the year. That's quite an incentive program, yes?

The American public has been DUPED by Medical and pharmacological corporations that are far more interested in lining THEIR pockets than treating patients with dignity. This movie will outrage anyone who thinks they are doing OKAY with their crappy medical insurance. Hospitals in the Los Angeles area putting people into CABS and dropping them off at shelters because they couldn't pay their bills?

The insurance companies and the medical community should hang their heads in SHAME. Hypocratic oath -- it's a freaking FARCE.

EVERYONE should see this movie. EVERYONE.

2. I left out a lot of info but the review was long enough
However, I made it clear that I was ready for the European healthcare system. I always have been.

3. I'm soo ready for the European healthcare system
I think, and it's just my opinion - those doctors who have bought into the AMA schtick about *socialized medicine being the anti-christ* and haven't done THEIR homework need to see that section on the Brit doctor. It will open their eyes. To get this really considered, we need to drive that point home.

I hope this movie is number one this weekend. We're already decided to go twice, once with friends from work, and the second time with our local Dem group.

5. American doctors are more interested in finding a high-paying specialty
like cardiology or cosmetic surgery, while avoiding those like pediatrics or OB-GYN that have sky-high malpractice insurance rates, long hours, and lower pay.

6. some of the WORST doctors we've come up against are Worker's Comp docs
Talk about INCOMPETENT and potentially DANGEROUS.

But DO see Sicko -- it will blow your mind.
