Reverend Moon's reason for starting the Washington Times....fulfill God's desire to save the world.
I thought that was interesting. Here is his statement on why he founded it:

True Family And True Universe Centering On True Love

I established The Washington Times to fulfill God's desperate desire to save this world. Since that time, I have devoted myself to raising up The Washington Times, hoping that this blessed land of America would fulfill its world-wide mission to build a Heavenly nation. Meanwhile, I waged a lonely struggle, facing enormous obstacles and scorn as I dedicated my whole heart and energy to enable The Washington Times to grow as a righteous and responsible journalistic institution … The efforts of The Times to revitalize the moral and spiritual values of the United States and the world are being recognized as absolutely urgent and necessary at this time.

May I say that Katherine Harris would most certainly agree with that goal.

Kate Harris says God chooses our rulers

But last month when the paper celebrated its 25th anniversary, they failed to mention these goals...or even mention his name.

From Right Wing Watch:

The Most Objective Name in News

Apparently, the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of The Washington Times qualifies as national news. At least it does to The Washington Times, which ran a 2200+ word “article” about itself on its own “Nation/Politics” page yesterday.

Written by one of its own staff members, The Times’ love letter to itself is remarkable for its complete and utter lack of humility.

..."For some reason, nowhere in the piece is it mentioned that the paper was started by Rev. Sun Myung Moon, a man who admitted back in 1991 that “literally nine hundred million to one billion dollars has been spent to activate and run the Washington Times.”

A little more about what they wrote in high praise of themselves.

The Times, however, has upheld traditional journalism standards with far fewer resources than its more lavishly funded competitors. Indeed, The Times earned its credibility precisely because of its shoe-leather reporting on corruption at every level of government as well as its scoops on issues involving national security and U.S. intelligence services.

The tumultuous administration of D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, the House banking scandal, the exposure of Rep. Barney Frank's live-in call boy, President Clinton's Whitewater troubles, the 1995 budget showdown between Mr. Clinton and the Republican Congress, the September 11 terrorist attacks -- on these stories and many others, The Times has been a vital source of information.

..."The founding vision of The Times proved prescient, and the methodology with which the paper pursued that vision had practical implications as well. By boosting the morale of the pro-American West and delivering a real, dependable product, The Times both instilled the spirit and created the architecture for today's news counterestablishment.

Indeed, by succeeding as an independent voice in a town that had become stony ground for "second" newspapers, The Times taught an important lesson that still resonates: The news elite shouldn't have the last word on what is and what is not news.

Talk about patting yourself on the back.

But I guess Moon has gotten enough recognition and power, much of it behind the scenes....that he has Poppa Bush speaking at an event again.

The father of the US president will speak at a Reverend Moon event.

That's pretty much power right there.

Makes me wonder how much of this religious fervor to turn our country into a Christian nation is tied to his efforts. He has, after all, powerful friends in high places.

2. The Bush Family has made $Millions from Moon and the
Moonies. Pat Robertson U was bailed out by Moon or was that Falwell? Moon is a diabolical Con Artist, who spent over a year in US Prison for tax evasion. I read the Pop Bush pardoned him. Is that a fact?

3. The Moonies were going door to door in my neighborhood last weekend.
I don't think I've seen one in years. I remember them 30 years ago when they were are over selling flowers. When I was in college my buddy and I were out drinking the night of the Ali/Foreman fight and as we walked home slightly inebriated he got hit up by the Moonies 2 times to buy flowers (I just kept walking). The girl who came to my door last Saturday said she was from China and was wearing a photo ID badge that said she was with the Unification Church.

6. Oh Gawd! That's his money
soaked perception..he can say anything he wants because he has the money from god knows where to buy a newspaper and shout it from his bully pulpit.

My perception is that reverend moonie is full of toxic shyte and is doing his part to fuck with the world.

why doesn't he just save it? Does he really need all these wackos and crooks to do it?

15. You forgot the adverb there. Moon think God is desperate
That makes His choice of Moon a lot clearer, don't you think?

13. He wants to save a newspaper and land, not souls? Odd.
God wants to save the world, hmmm, He doesn't list God wanting to save the people?

Is he somehow psychologically detached from being a person or caring for them or even caring for himself?

Just strikes me as weird.

That and no remorse or mention for saying a Dem presidential candidate was under mental care just before elections, then oops, guess not. Then saying Gore promoted himself by saying he found Love Canal misquoting Gore at first, taking his time to retract and correct, only to correct the word and claim it meant the same, which it did not--of course. And, helping the swift boat veterans for truly good housing deals for the self as long as they'd say some really bad things about John Kerry. (Talk about a classless society!)

The good Republican. Abuse tax rules, no concern for other people, wants to save things.
