Can You Guys Do Me A Favor And Keep An Eye Out For DUer "Hell Hath No Fury"
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 07:57 AM by WillyT
She and her mom live in Tallac Village at So. Lake Tahoe. They were evacuated once, but allowed to return. She posted here Monday Night: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1183996

This is their house:

This is where their house is located:

Burned so far:

Link: http://www.news10.net/display_story.aspx?storyid=29590

They live right near the "Y", where 89 splits off from 50. They may have been evacuated again, they may be volunteering to help. I'm just hoping that they are alright.

Hell... if ya see this, please check in. And DUers, if you see her post, direct her here, or let us know. And maybe give this a kick every once in a while if it drops off the front page.

Thank you.

WillyT

4. She Posted It Herself In Her Post The Other Night...
I'm pretty sure being harrased by some pathetic Freeptoid is NOT her major concern at the moment.

For all we know...

Nevermind

The owner posting it and the OP of this thread posting it are 2 different things. It should be removed.

ETA - We can keep an eye out for Hell without seeing where they live exactly IMO.

5. I sure will, Willy T. K&N for exposure. And that thread...
:wow:

People can be SO cold and unfeeling; money doesn't/shouldn't even enter it when your home is burning down. It's still burned, regardless of what it cost to build. If I see her, I'll let you know.

12. KnR...
I cannot even fathom what these families must be going through. I look out my window here in the midst of the Green Mountains of Vermont and I am completely surrounded by large evergreens. The mere thought of seeing these trees in flames, knowing that I would certainly lose my home, just makes me shudder.

I hope and pray that all those affected by this hellfire remain safe and sound and out of harms way.

17. I'm here Willy!
When we woke up yesterday morning, the smoke was so bad in the house it was unbearable. The evacuation became voluntary, but when we drove around the neighborhood it was pretty much deserted except for folks packing up trailers and hosing down their houses. At the fire line, there were still engine companies posted, watching the fire that was still buring up on Gardner mountain behind the house. I did not like the look of it at all. It was clear they were letting it burn off as much as possible without jumping the break. It felt dangerous to me.

Mom has severe asthma, so we made the decision to leave to go to San Francisco until the air cleared up a bit more. As we passed Meyerers and Upper Truckee, the air was just digusting with smoke -- visability was very poor. The minute we started to climb out of the basin, the air suddenly -- and I do mean SUDDENLY -- cleared completly, leaving that classic blue Tahoe sky. When we got to the summit, we turned around to look back and the entire basin looked like as if an invisible, smoke-filled dome had been placed over the basin.

Heard on the news yesterday Mom's area had another manditory evacuation due to the winds pushing the fire over the break (just what I was afraid of) so I am glad we came down here.

It is looking like the fire is staying a few blocks north of the house, but the winds are supposed to hit around 11:00am today, so spot fires can break out at any time. They are bringing in prisoners (!) to start working the fire, which is another sign that makes me nervous -- that means too few/too tired firefighters. And if the winds get too high, the air support drops significantly.

We're keepimg our fingers crossed the fire stays in the remote areas and that there is no more serious damage. :(

Thanks for checkin; in! :hi:

24. Hey Willy!
Mom says "hey" and thanks you for your good vibes! :hi:

We have been watching the news and reading the updates on the local Tahoe paper's website -- it looks like this thing is still not over yet. Even though the winds were not as bad as expected yesterday, there were many spot fires that crossed 89 towards the outer Tahoe Keys that kept the friefighters busy. Saw this morning that a spot fire had gotten as far to the Post Office at the Y - just a few blocks from the house on the eastern side. Right now we seem to be riding out the fires in a little six block area of safety in our neighborhood. The winds are supposed to get back into action today, so we're still holding our breath and hoping it all passes us by.

Mom and I have been doing nothing but catching up on sleep -- I admit I popped a couple of Valium last night for the first time since this whole thing started. I hadn't realized how completely rigid/tight I was until I started to finally relax a bit! :D

Will keep you posted on how we/the house are doing!

:loveya:
