Post number 4000. It's taken me nearly six years to get to this number
since I started reading DU in the Spring of 2001.

I'd like to say someting profound. Instead like that old bit of doggeral (that I never can remember completely)

Can't think,
Brain dumb,
Inspiration won't come.
Bad ink
Bum pen
Guess this is the end.

I look out the window and it is a beautiful day. The sky is really blue with big, super white puffy clouds drifting by. The air is crystal clear. Each needle on the pine trees is deliniated against the sky.

The heat and the humidity are perfect for lying in a hammock and soaking into my the heat and atmosphere.

It's a day for lazy hedonism and being glad to be alive.

And we are killing and maiming people in Iraq and Afganistan. Destroying lives and minds all for the enrichment of a few. We are caging people in Gitmo and other places, treating them worse than circus and zoo animals are treated (that is plenty bad enough).

I spend a lot more time in the lounge than I used to do. Sometimes it gets too much in The Latest and The Greatest. I get depressed. I'm not sure what to do to change things. I'm not sure things will get better.

Maybe I'll go buy that hammock (the old one rotted away from lack of use).

Perhaps an afternoon or two in the sun will give some inspiration.

5. 4000?
I've been around DU as long as you have, and I'm not even to a thousand yet! Oh, Ive probably composed twice as many as I have posted, but once I write something, I ask myself if I really want to post it. You see about half of them.

Congrats anyway.

I spent last evening fishing on a dock across the street from my home. It rained the entire time, but that's when the catfish bite the best! My mission was to catch as many as I could to put in our kid's fishing pond. Our fishing club usually buys fish for events (4 annually), but the rest of the year is left to us anglers to stock the pond. I have put 49 catfish in over the last week.

Although it was raining steady, there was no lightening or wind, and I had a rain suit on, And I really enjoyed myself. Having the luxury of retiring at age 45, I spend a lot of time just enjoying nature. I have given up on trying to change the world and focus just on my little piece of the world. We can all make a difference, no matter how small or trivial our contribution may be.
I am thankful for the activists here, and I contribute my share to their cause, but I am at peace with my life just enjoying what time I have left.

I guarantee that afternoon in the sun will make you feel better! Leave the phone in the house and grab a nap.

6. That's why! You'd rather be fishing than posting!
Lucky you to retire at 45. That's when I went back to having a regular full time job after ten years off doing free lance costuming, et als while raising the kids... Since we used up most of our retirement funds during those years, I'll probalby retire when I do the pushing up daisies bit.

But I enjoy my job.

I registered in Jan. 2002 and have half your post count.
As my dear old grandmother used to say, "I never learned nothing when I was talking".
