Can anyone 'splain this?
Just had a baby monitor on...when the transmitter was turned off, the receiver started picking up what sounded like a commercial. I went through the TV channels and lo and behold...I was picking up Fox!

I turned off my TV and still am picking up Fox, clear as a bell through the baby monitor. Do you think they are transmitting through the International Space Station? This is weird.

1. My TV picks up the police sometimes and
I can hear phone calls from neighbors sometimes
if I'm in between channels on the set.
Probably just a fluke.

3. My grandson came running from his room one day
telling me that a man was talking to him on his toy walky-talkies. when I listened there was a man talking!. Turns out his toy picks up the control tower from detroit metro airport. Wierd, but true!

4. Just frequency overlapping and...
maybe poor harmonic filtering. Too bad it's Fox, though.

Not nearly as weird as those people who received radio programs though their dental fillings.

5. It's "spurious radio-frequency interference" (RFI)
And spurious is certainly the right word to use in regards to Fox.

Baby monitors are usually pretty cheaply made. Plugging it into a different socket will probably help.

Then again, the RFI is probably coming from an exposed cable connection, so you could call your cable provider, too.

There is also the possibility you have a neighbor who is using a wall-current broadcast carrier to take the signal into other rooms. If you live in an apartment, you could look into that, too.

6. A couple of weeks agao, Fox ran a piece very similar
to your experience. A lady was explaining how
what seemed to be TV voices was coming in through
her baby's monitoring system. No explanation as
to why.

As more cases develop perhaps someone will find
the answer.

7. Couple of weeks ago...
a baby monitor was picking up raw feeds from the space shuttle. I'd say that it's just the luck of the draw that a low-power monitor happened to pickup a certain frequency, but the anecdotal evidence in this thread implies a really wide range of possible frequencies. That's kinda odd. Maybe your monitor is possessed by demons. (It is picking up Fox.)

8. mystery sorta solved
Fox was on at my neighbors house. When they turned it off, I now get their conversations clear as a bell. What in the world? How am I picking up my neighbors' conversations? They don't have a baby.

10. Bedridden patients often use baby monitors
I let a friend use mine for her mother who was suffering from cancer.

It was sad when she brought them back, saying she didn't need them any more.

everyone had those huge metal mesh satellite dishes. We could pick up

12. I remember
one time when we turned off the monitor in my daughter's room but not in our room and we then heard a discussion from our neighbor's house who also had a baby monitor. A bit disconcerting.

14. TV audio broadcasts on the low end of the FM spectrum
apparently so does the baby monitor. Is the TV station fairly close - within 30 miles or so?

15. A few months
ago I had my storage room broken into so I purchased a baby monitor to put in there in case they came back I could hear them. I had several bags of aluminum cans in there and apparently they acted like a big antenna cause every once in a while I pick up phone calls and other stuff.

17. Scanners
Lots of folks have "police scanners" which can pick up just about everything these days. Some have them modified to pick up cell phone calls, which is against the law. Most of the new scanners have a option called "close call" which searches the airwaves for signals close to them. So I would be careful what you have that transmits over the air!!!
