I don't think we can afford to ignore "people" like Coulter.
She serves as a proxy by which neocons can float their most outrageous ideas. When she gets away with what she says, it's quickly taken up by Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. Then it's repeated by FauxNews. Then CNN, etc. get ahold of it. Case in point:

A. Coulter launches a vicious attack on 9/11 widows.
B. Limbaugh and Hannity chime in.
C. O'Reilly does a segment.
D. FauxNews tosses out the line: "9/11 Widows: Taking Advantage?" or something like that.
E. Coulter hits the Today Show, or CNN, and there's a "debate."

So you go from crazy columnist to mainstream media, and it does two things:

1. It gets a nauseating idea into the public consciousness.
2. The sheer repetition makes it less shocking, allowing it to become a neocon staple.

She has to be hit and hit hard at every available opportunity. Silence doesn't give the impression that Democrats are "above it all." Silence gives the impression that Democrats will sit there and take it. Silence gives the impression that there's not really a strong argument against her crap. In today's atmosphere, silence legitimizes someone like Coulter who always has a platform on FauxNews or CNBC.

2. What we need is somebody to be relentless, aggressive and loud like ANN, but anti-evil.
We need an Avenging Angel.

3. Make her what the RNC fears: the poster child of the GOP
The more she's dismissed as a crazy nut, the more opportunity she has to spew her crazy nut nonsense. I propose the opposite tactic: take her seriously. Let the majority of Americans who don't watch Hardball know that she's what the GOP is about. Shine the light on her, put her on the pedastal, point, and yell "DOES THIS WOMAN TRULY REPRESENT YOU?"

5. Agreed!
Just like the Christofacist's, no matter how insane their statements might be, if you don't counter them they will become more common thinking than they deserve. Fight them on every front with every tool you can find, so long as it's true.

6. On target
I agree. Most people have some sense of honor and responsibility, not her. She appears to be a sociopath in the bush/cheney mode. They will not change but we can change our response to the stations/programs that have her on.

What is with the hair? She just kept playing with her hair. Is that to distract us from the fact that there is just nothing there of any consequence other than evil. Anything for a buck.

7. Those are not "mainstream" media. They are front organizations for the RW
corporatists.

Keep paying your cable bill and see how fast she comes back.
