Rumsfeld Seeking 'Large Cash Advance' For Iraq Memoir
Rumsfeld Seeking 'Large Cash Advance' For Iraq Memoir

The publishing world is abuzz over the news that a former defense secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, may write a memoir justifying the military strategy for the war in Iraq. While a deal has not yet been struck, Mr. Rumsfeld has toured New York publishing houses with an outline of his book in an effort to gauge how much information he would have to disclose in the memoir in order to justify a large cash advance.
A principal for the publicity firm Shirley & Banister, Craig Shirley, said such a book would have a better-than-fair shot of becoming a bestseller if it was properly marketed, well-written, and contained interesting new content. In addition, the publisher of the conservative imprint Regnery, Marji Ross, estimated the former secretary would command at least a six-figure advance. Someone like Mr. Rumsfeld, who has a loyal following and yet sparks a lot of controversy, is good for book sales, she said.

2. It's sad
to think he will get paid big money for his crimes. He should have to pay the victims of his madness.

7. When I heard the news I threw up in my mouth, a little.

Sick doesn't begin to describe it. Rummy should NEVER ever be allowed to profit again, off anything. His profiteering rights should be null and void.

It never stops.

3. Rumsfeld is an admitted War Criminal
Rumsfeld Shouldn't be Fired, He Should be Indicted
by Matthew Rothschild

“Secretary Rumsfeld has publicly admitted that . . . he ordered an Iraqi national held in Camp Cropper, a high security detention center in Iraq, to be kept off the prison’s rolls and not presented to the International Committee of the Red Cross,” the report noted. The Geneva Conventions require countries to grant the Red Cross access to all detainees. “

Further Evidence Rumsfeld Implicated in War Crimes
Please read this important post by Marty Lederman, Army Confirms: Rumsfeld Authorized Criminal Conduct.

Here's a key section, but there's more:

The Army's charges against Jordan reflect the view, undoubtedly correct, that the use of forced nudity or intimidation with dogs against detainees subject to military control constitutes cruelty and maltreatment that Article 93 makes criminal. It doesn't matter whether they are or are not "torture," as such; nor does it matter whether the armed forces should be permitted to use such interrogation techniques: As things currently stand, they are unlawful, as even the Army now acknowledges.

But then how can we account for the actions of the Secretary of Defense and his close aides?

On November 27, 2002, Pentagon General Counsel William Haynes, following discussions with Deputy Secretary Wolfowitz, General Myers, and Doug Feith, informed the Secretary of Defense that forced nudity and the use of the fear of dogs to induce stress were lawful techniques, and he recommended that they be approved for use at Guantanamo.
(The lists of techniques to which Haynes was referring can be found in this memorandum.) On December 2, 2002, Secretary Rumsfeld approved those techniques for use at Guantanamo -- and subsequently those techniques were used on detainee Mohammed al-Qahtani.

In other words, the Secretary of Defense authorized criminal conduct.

...

Today's Army charge under UCMJ Article 93 against Lt. Col. Jordan -- for conduct that the SecDef actually authorized as to some detainees -- demonstrates that Rumsfeld approved of, and encouraged, violations of the criminal law.

5. I wonder if Rumsfeld will have his book vetted by a Government
organization like Valerie Plame has had to go through!

Because he is just stupid enough to convict himself!

I don't know about anyone else but the man writes his memoirs on the backs and in the blood of our soldiers and Iraqi's lives......these criminals have no shame...

12. Of course he's gonna get a bundle, but...
like all the rest, his book will be a pile of self-serving bullshit with nothing new of substance in it.

Won't be an admission of how he's the one who sold the gas to Saddam.

Won't be an explanation of how he invented the Saddam-bin Laden link. Or just where all those WMD's really did go ?

Or how he managed to shove Powell into a corner.

And it would be a pisser if New York's Son of Sam law affected him and he couldn't keep the money.

Fucker-- him writing a book about this mess is slimier than OJ's almost-a-book.

13. No publisher should give him a dime unless
he agrees that any proceeds go directly to assist war vets and their families who have special needs as a result of their assignment to his war.
