How great is Elizabeth Edwards?

Hate is the only language she speaks.

wanted to change the dialogue so there would be civility.

David Gregory is being a whore and asked her about the fact that John Edwards talks about poverty and then gets expensive haircuts.

Elizabeth then said it has nothing to do with this, and mentioned how Coulter attacked the Jersey Girls.

Now Gregory is asking about how the Edwards campaign asked for contributions through this confrontation.

At least EE pointed out that she didn't book Anne to be on nor did she know that that AC's book promotional appearances would coincide with the end of the second fund raising quarter.

I just can't believe that this attempt to raise the political discourse is being construed and diminished as being solely about raising revenue.

Like anyone who has written to candidates, we get barraged with letters from them addressing whatever issue is current and topical which also ask for contributions. Why does the media have it in for these perfectly nice people. . .?

Ahhh that would be a rhetorical question.

Coulter, and then saw the fundraising request, I did cringe. I knew that there would be repercussions in the media for this. I think a simple email followed up by another one a day or two later asking for contributions would have been fine.

And of course, David Gregory, whom I used to admire, jumped all over it.

They've done this before and it serves more than one purpose. It allows people (like me) who feel angry and powerless as these people attack over and over a chance to feel empowered. And it also sort of beats those idiots at their own game - using the publicity they create with their hatred to raise money for people who are doing everything in their power to fight against them.

the Edwards' campaign is tapping into this for more contributions. It just doesn't look good for fence sitters. Remember, we are those who are informed but most people aren't.

And I find this much less distasteful than the Republicans using 9-11 and the threat of more terrorist attacks to raise gobs of money a few years back.

I realize most people don't think. Boy, do I. Just had dinner with 3 college graduates who extolled the wonder of People magazine because it helps them keep up with "entertainment news" which, apparently, they can't seem to absorb anywhere else (even though it's EVERYWHERE). The media is going to keep spoon-feeding opinions to people like that. It's a problem and will continue to be one, so I just can't criticize someone who tries to fight fire with fire.

I was furious that Kerry allowed himself to be swiftboated without any real defense of himself. All I'm saying is that it would have been cooler if they didn't tie it in with funding.

And as to extolling People magazine, sheesh. I thank my lucky stars that my two sons, 20 and 16 are politically awake. The other day my younger son had his cellphone on the kitchen table, and I opened it up. The screen saver was a photo of the Buddhist monk who burned himself to death to stop the Vietnam war. I asked my son about it and he said that man was his hero.

It must make you feel good to know that they are going to go through life with their eyes wide open! Nice work!

Do these people have any idea how much some women spend on their hair and their "mani's" and "pedi's"?

I think Elizabeth Edwards is great for being able to take a much higher road than some of us (myself included) here.

I also think it's great that she's bipartisan enough to point the finger at her fellow Democrats (myself and ourselves included) for not being able to live to Ms. Edward's own high standards.

So, fellow DUers, my personal opinion is that we serve a vital function in this debate-- giving Elizabeth Edwards someone from her own side of the aisle to chastise.

I hope she mentions us on TV again today.

And then, people will come here and see that only SOME of us wish Ann Coulter harm, but that many others (not me) shout those people down.

And they will also see that there is much, much more here on DU, and that there are great truths posted here that have been hidden from them.

So, fellow DUers, whether you take the high road or the low road, just keep on doing your thing.

In the South, when someone does something that displeases us we politely ask them to stop. I had done it before to some rude college boys in South Carolina in 2003. They responded politely and stopped. So that is what I asked of Coulter last night. She is 45, so I had hoped for at least as civil a response as I had gotten from 19-year-old college boys. I was wrong.

"When attacked, deck your opponents!" they all said she was being authoritative and presidential! When the Edwards campaign tries to confront opponents, they are being opportunists! Can't win. It seems the media has already decided who is the 'anointed' nominee.

No reporting whatsoever about the evil shit spewed from Coulter. If he has an email, he needs to be flooded with "requests" that he provide journalism, not smear pieces of a woman with cancer.
