for about a year my neighbors (almost all Americans) all thought I was German. Why? "You blend so well"... so my hubby got me a t-shirt that reads "I blend"

Will you and Hubby be returning to the States soon?

I haven't watched any of the debating yet - I may have to catch this one.

I think this one will be a must see

however I find it so interesting whenever describing someone with less than "white" skin, there has to be a label attached, "Hispanic America, Black America, Asian America" and on another level, even "Gay Americans"in order to create some sort of separation.

Why is it?

Seems to me I thought we were all Americans, not to be singled out as "separate but equal".

THE COVENANT WITH BLACK AMERICA

Inspired by the book The Covenant with Black America, The All-American Presidential Forums on PBS marks the first time that a panel comprised of journalists of color will be represented in primetime. Many of the questions that will be asked of the candidates focus on key domestic priorities that were originally outlined in the book.


It's an historic event, actually...and considering today's SCOTUS ruling...the title would be the last thing I'd take issue with...but that's just me

that the labeling will stop.:(

standard against which all other are measured. That's the joy, if you will, of white (male) privilege: everything else is "The Other" and must be identified as such.

But if it's NOT identified as such, it disappears. Typically, those who call for "an end to hyphenated-Americans, because we should ALL just be Americans" are rightwing racists who would LOVE to have the "problem" of people of color not being talked about at all, and the "problem" of racism just disappear along with it. That would mean the racists would NEVER have to answer for their racism, would never be bothered by it in any way.

I can't imagine you fit that category -- but I will say your attitude here definitely SUPPORT those who would "disappear" racism and along with it the very existence (and noteworthiness) of various minority groups.

The disastrous Supreme Court ruling...I dare say this debate is very important and these candidates will have some explaining to do!:-( :kick:
