12. Especially if it is an open auditorium.
If they don't have a Republican only policy, they might get a totally different response. It will be rather funny to watch them refute their statements from the earlier 2 debates.

8. Will the place be full of African-American Republicans?
I'm sure tonight's audience wouldn't be especially welcoming to the likes of Mitt 'Tar Baby' Romney.

for the Republican debate. THAT would make those assholes rather uncomfortable, wouldn't it?

13. excellent debate, but unfair time allotments and tone
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 09:31 PM by venable
last question - richardson cut off after 20 secs, Edwards cut off after 20 secs, Dennis after 15, Obama after.....43 seconds.

also, Smiley interrupting Obama with: I love you but we have to move on.

Smiley interrupting Richardson: Richardson - "I'm done", Smiley "Yes you are"

just an unfair tone, I thought, favoring Obama the most, and HRC the next most. My opinion, anyway.

all in all much better though.

could it be better? Of course. Wolfie's debate had the absolute worst time allocation

32. Synopsis...
...from where I sit:

Dodd -- didn't stand out
Kucinich -- did well and connected with the audience
Obama -- did well but not enough to gain momentum
Clinton -- solid, with a couple of standout moments with the audience
Gravel -- critiqued his colleagues; a little bit sound-bitey and message a bit muddled BUT tackled the drug war head-on (!!!)
Biden -- didn't stand out enough
Edwards -- like Obama, did well but did not gain momentum
Richardson -- continues to put forth good, creative ideas and gained some momentum IMO

All in all I thought it was a high caliber field and overall I liked the questions and most of the answers -- as I said in another post, any one of them would be infinitely preferable to any of the Republic candidates.

33. I truly hate to admit this ...
but overall, especially on issues of race, Hillary Clinton truly understood the the questions and aced the responses. Especially on the first 3 or so questions, the other candidates gave canned responses that didn't even address the issue at hand. Hillary surprised me by getting to the heart of those issues and not avoiding them. I think the biggest example was the question about black high school graduates getting hired at appallingly lower rates than white high school dropouts. All of them started giving canned responses about early childhood education and parent involvement in inner city schools and hiring more teachers. It was embarrassing and actually somewhat insulting. Hillary addressed the racial disparity head on. And the audience awarded her for it. Ditto for the opening question about today's SCOTUS decision and whether racism exists still. She dug into the Brown v. Board question in depth. And the response that if AIDS affected white women there would be a cure already ... she had them rolling in the aisles.

Frankly, I'm surprised. She's not my candidate (I don't really have one), but on these issues, she gets it in ways that the others absolutely do not, and she is extremely good at communicating it. I have to call this one for Clinton, even if my inclination is not to want to. I continue to be impressed by her skills. I wish I could forgive her for you know what.

47. and the WTO
these are two of Kucinich's very staunch plans from his run in '06. Here we are in oh eight and so many more jobs have been lost.

Kucinich is in fact the best of the lot - the only REAL Democrat running in this race IMO.

Hillary isn't going to repeal any of golden boy Bill's doings IMO. :grr:

44. I think it's the fact that she'll be pretty transparent in how she maps out her solutions.
She is a major pragmatist and she wants to see things to better for everyone.

However, she has a bit of baggage. Yet, she has all the credentials.

And, I really liked this debate. The candidates needed more time. When the field thins, I hope Mr. Smiley moderates the more substantial debates. MKJ

45. I didn't see the debate but I have read about that
and it raises her a lot in my eyes. I really really want to support a female candidate, but with the "you know what" and other issues - I am a bit leery. But it's good to know that she did well on the racism issues.

I can't believe that there was a question about racism still existing, though. How ignorant would you have to be to think that humans are free of prejudice now?
