Hero Cop May Have Saved Scores Of Lives
Sky News sources say one of the first police officers on the scene of the London West End car bomb may have saved dozens of lives by diffusing the explosives before the bomb squad arrived.
It is believed the quick-thinking cop recognised that the car was wired to blow up, jumped in and disconnected the trigger device, thought to be a mobile phone.
This backs up an eye-witness account of a police officer briefly entering the metallic green Mercedes before running for cover.

Having stayed in the West End for some time, I know how many people would have been at least seriously injured had
that gone off. This is what amazes me about the good police and other public servants -- that they can place their
own well-being second to that of others. Good for him (and I'm assuming the gender).

Gasoline isn't a good medium for blowing up a car, regardless of what movies may show.

While he's still brave. It wasn't exactly Jack Bauer defusing the nuke at the 2 second mark.

to explode, so I agree that I can't see why people got so excited. After all, who cares about a couple of small BLEVEs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BLEVE) on a crowded street?
