I've heard hundreds of opening statements. Fitzgerald not only lays everything out in a logical manner, he's showing clearly the deviousness of the scheme, he isn't overwhelming with too much info to absorb at one time. As smart as he is, he doesn't make the mistake of trying to show off his brilliance and he gets the info to a level that anyone can comprehend it.

"Cheney told Libby that Plame worked at CIA and against the spread of nuclear weapons." Pow!!

Fitzgerald brought up the issue of a Friday news dump. Finally. Now those Americans who have been sleepwalking might be tempted to ask, what's a Friday news dump? Perhaps they'll get a clue what's been going on with all the rotten machinations of the bush administration that slip in under the radar.

Fitzgerald is showing all the character flaws of the major players, without sounding snarky, without trying to tell the jurors what to think. This opening argument is great. It's even better than I expected.
