I know I am--- If it was 100 percent certain that he wasn't running---I might have made a choice already.

9. I agree. All this 2008 talk is a distraction. I see very few of the GOP hopefuls being grilled.
It's the media helping bush* & cheney contol the message.

5. I am. After reading posts here and other progressive sites, I say we're not alone.
Take the time to read some of the comments posted at HuffPo. There is definitely a ground swell of support for Pres. Gore.

He won in 2000 and he is way more popular now. Enough said!

7. For some reason I think Gore is still interested in the job and will
get it the race.

It could be that he's making a few calls around to keep people alert to the possibility. I don't think fundraising would be a huge problem for him. Endorsements would come easily enough, and likely in great numbers.

Say for the sake of argument he decides to jump in. Say he hires Howard Dean as his campaign manager. Say he privately begins drawing up possible running mates -- Schweitzer of Montana. Sebelius of Kansas. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Bill Moyers.

Al Gore doesn't have to do things exactly the same now as he did in his two other presidential campaigns. He's much more evolved and may upset the conventional applecarts.

26. I think the conventional applecarts need to be upset...
That's why I think the time is now for him to run. Schweitzer of Montana would be a great choice-- it would also put that state in the blue catagory (although, I think it is turning bluer by the day). I also thing RFK jr. would make an excellent choice... Edward's work with the poverty crisis would also make him a viable choice. I also like Feingold for the job...

But I have to agree with you and say the time is right for him to step in - but I think he should wait until a little later in the year (like say, after he wins his Oscar and Nobel Peace prize).

28. Hi, Blue Belle. I love your premonition on Montana. It can go as blue as
it wants as fast as possible and that would be a real, real good thing. Schweitzer and Tester have really put Montana on the map for me. I really like those two guys a lot.

We'll have to see what Al's got up his sleeve. He's one of the smartest people around and I trust his instincts on his own path.

34. Montana politics is getting mighty intersting...
every once in a while, I'll get the skinny from my sister who lives in Kalispelle. I think that Schweitzer has a lot of good ideas and he would definitely electrify an already electric ticket. IT's going to be a hell of an interesting year in politics that for certain.

10. It's way too early to "commit".
I think a couple of candidates might still come in. I generally wait until I see debates and specific policies, not "talking points".

Al Gore is the elephant in the living room, though. He can take all the time he wants. Yes, I will be disappointed if he doesn't run. I think he would be handily elected. But, I would get over it and deal with the reality of my actual choices.

I'm holding back a commitment because frankly none of the candidates really turn me on.

"In the primary you fall in love, in the general you fall in line." Don't worry, after the convention I'll fall in line and fully support the nominee. But at this point no one (including Gore)makes me feel like going door to door. If my caucus was today, I would sign in as Uncommitted.

25. Personally, I'd Find It To Be Amazingly Silly And Closed Minded To Already Have A Commitment.
Why the hell does there have to be a 'commitment' to any of our candidates right now? Are we that small minded that we can't leave our opinions open throughout the campaigns to be objective and flexible in who we support most? 2008 is still quite a bit away and I would think that to be committed already shows a lack of objectivity. There is a lot that remains to be seen from each candidate and I'm choosing to keep an open mind towards all of them.

i dont think there is anything silly or closed minded to have a preference. preference may not be commitment, i dont know. but i do know i have a preference. i also know any dem we have running is above and beyond what any repug is running and regardless i will find in our candidate the enthusiasm to support, whether or not it is the person i prefer to win. and in the mean time, i dont feel the need to bash the dems that are running against the one i prefer to win.

all the candidates look good to me. The debate is awesome. Al Gore would be a very unifying figure for the base, I think--but infuriate the DLCers who run the campaigns.

I wouldn't blame Al for saying eff you to the whole ugly scene, though. What a meatgrinder. I wish we had public financing and no corporate involvement in our elections.

Unless you're working for one of the candidates (like with a paying job) it seems to me that everyone ought to wait at least till a couple of debates have taken place. Give yourself a chance to see where everyone stands. We have all the time in the world. I just can't see why so many people are all worked up about one candidate so damned early. I've got a couple of favorites but that doesn't mean I'm not going to listen to what the others have to say. My God, with all the vitriol I see here you folks are going to be so stressed out before any election primary you'll be to sick to vote. Lighten up and calm down people. We need you in 2008.

61. Thread summary - so far
Many "Yes"

Some "way to early to back anyone"

A few 'he isn't running - so I back someone else'.

Granted the last catagory is probably skewed in numbers (compared to the other) due to the topic OP pressumption of not yet supporting a candidate.

66. Yeah, and I think the board is pretty peaceful because of that phenomenon.
When half the board or so doesn't support anyone because their candidate isn't running- yet- it makes for much fewer flame-fests.

74. I'm holding out hope for a Gore run
If that doesn't happen I don't see myself jumping into the primaries at all. That's ok though as there is so much work to do in my county and district to get ready for 08.

75. Nope. I'm waiting to see the full line-up.
I still don't think I've seen anyone who can beat a strong Republican candidate.

And until I do, nobody's getting my support.
