Gusciora seeks Gore delegates for 2008
By Max Pizarro - July 9, 2007 - 3:03pm

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora wants former Vice President Al Gore to be the next president. So he's launching a statewide grassroots movement to muster the necessary New Jersey delegates to put Gore's name in at the Democratic National Convention next summer.

Forget about a draft Al Gore movement now. It's too late, Gusciora contends. Gore supporters, says the veteran progressive legislator, need to organize and take their cause straight out of the February, 2008, Democratic primary to the convention in Denver.

Coming off a ceremony at Giants stadium last Friday at which Gov. Jon Corzine signed the Global Warming Response Act, which Gusciora co-wrote and which global warming guru Gore personally attended, the Assemblyman said he was pumped up to go statewide with his Go Gore message.

"I would like to try to find people who are interested," said Gusciora. "The American psyche has a way of correcting its mistakes. Gore's ideas were really criticized on global warming when he ran for president in 2000."

3. I don't understand his strategy. "Forget the draft Gore movement" but...
let's draft Gore delegates and take it to the convention??

Anybody grasp this? Please explain.

The only thing I can make of it is, he's saying it's too late for the primaries (although I don't know why it would be), but then...he says (or the article says) "take their cause straight out of the February, 2008, Democratic **PRIMARY** to the convention in Denver." But how do you do that if, say, Hillary wins the NJ primary and thus has a lock of those delegates at least for the first round at the convention?

I just don't understand it, logistically. What is he proposing?

By using the now "popular" Al Gore. Please. It's as if he is actually defying Mr. Gore's own words about HIM being the change. Is that what he wrote the bill for? To bring attention to himself? To me drafts and stuff like this are nothing but exercises in ego. It is obvious that Mr. Gore has the resources and mind to do whatever he damn well pleases, and I really wish people would afford him that opportunity instead of constantly harrassing him about running at every turn. I would respect this man more if he had stated he is determined to see Mr. Gore's message take hold and that he was going to do all in his power to be a climate messenger now... but no, all he wants is to get his name in the paper. And what is it in these threads with the PR photo? Doesn't he look good enough now? Hmmm, and I wonder if he signed the Live Earth pledge? Sure looks like Mr. Gore has his share of those looking to ride his coattails for publicity.
