Breaking: US Senator knows God's mind!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6287488.stm

David Vitter, a Louisiana senator, said he had asked for and received forgiveness from God and his wife.

Deborah Palfrey, dubbed the "DC Madam", faces charges of running a lucrative city prostitution ring for 13 years.

Ms Palfrey, who says she provided a legal escort service, has said she will call prominent clients to testify.

Mr Vitter's statement, confirmed to the Associated Press by his spokesman, said his telephone number was included on the phone records published on her website on Monday

...

"Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counselling."

they turn to God, when they make mistakes, what hypocrites, and "I'm sorry" line is not going to do it either.

7. The scary thing is that it does work
but only for them. When somebody not associated with _their version_ of the magical sky wizard asks for forgiveness they are pretty much spit on.

Remember the sobbing display of idiocy by Jimmy Swaggart after banging a hooker in a cheap motel, or the magical conversion back to heterosexuality by that evangelical whacko last year?

4. Vitter better move out of the house.
Betcha Vitter’s sleeping in the extra room tonite. I sure would, after reading this quote from Politico:

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse News reporter: If her husband was as unfaithful as former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

Actually he asked the Chimp in charge who then spoke directly
Gawd. Vitter received forgiveness from Gawd through the Chimp, who assured Vitter that he (the chimp) had been told by Gawd to do this.
Gawd was not available for a comment. Gawd was unable to speak due to fits of laughter.

6. He's a catholic
he claims he confessed his sin in the confessional.

Catholics believe that when you do that, you're fogiven. It's part of the catholic faith--to hear the priest say that you are absolved and to know that you are.

I don't condone his behavior, I'll never vote for him.

But I don't see any point in slamming him for his religious beliefs. He screwed up, he asked for forgiveness and he believes he has received it.

I'm more concerned about how he'll vote on healthcare, war, etc. That will tell me just how much of his catholicism is to be believed.

26. Yeah - and the Sopranos are all good Catholics so no picking on
the mob lifestyle either.

It's the hesitance to condemn the 'faith' of others that leads to Jonestown and Heaven's Gate - to scientology, and to FLDS child abuse. It is religious faith that is encouraging people to fly airplanes into buildings.

Fuck faith.

28. I won't slam you for that either
actually, it's extremism that encourages people to fly planes into buildings. and as to Heaven's Gate and Jonestown, I think it's simplistic to say that religion was the only thing involved in those tragedies.

Mother Teresa had a lot of religious faith. So fuck that.. right?

11. Sorry, no dice
He plays with other peoples lives! He's a sanctimonious bag of crap. He has the audacity to stand up and say on the subject of the Marriage Amendment:

"I don't believe there's any issue that's more important than this one," said Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican. "I think this debate is very healthy, and it's winning a lot of hearts and minds. I think we're going to show real progress."

My reply in a letter to him:

Was this before or after you were making time with women of the evening?

You may pray to your god for forgiveness, sir, but you are the worst type of hypocrite. You have the audacity to say that marriage should only be something that straight people find a convenience until they get caught doing what you did.

I truly hope you're ashamed of yourself for trying to be the "moral compass" and falling far far short.

Next time you want to intrude on the lives of other people please make sure that your own house is in order.

And, by the way, the rights of people should not be subject to debate. If you were able to pass this "defense of marriage" act (which you apparently opted to ignore) would you then go after some other group to try and keep your "moral" rights campaign going?

Just wondering, "sir".

***

Call it what you want. He's not catholic or christian. He's a homophobic ass who feels it's fine that others should live their lives how HE sees it. I have no sympathy for him and completely agree with the shots that he's taking.

Because the same faith that "tells" him he's forgiven for his infidelity is the same faith that says gays can't get married. He should spend less time following his faith, and more time following the constitution. You know, the thing that gives all Americans their rights, not just the unfaithful Catholics?

13. If you repeatedly participate in the sin, do you have to ask for forgiveness over and over, or do
get a blanket forgivemness when you start feeling the heat and run to the priest?

20. you get forgiveness for the sin once you've asked for forgiveness
unless of course you continue to commit the sin once you've confessed it.

I don't know what his story is as to how many times and/or how many times he confessed it.

He believes he is forgiven. I won't question that.

31. Like my previous comment said, the sinner decides when to confess. It doesn't matter if
he has accumulated thousands of sins, he determines when the burden of sinfulness is so great that it's time to visit the priest. Or I suppose there are some of those secret sins that you will keep even from the priest, until it becomes apparent that they will be found out. Do you believe that this fellow confessed each of his visits to the madame to the priest and to his wife on the next morning after each encounter?

25. I understand that you may not have an understanding of the catholic faith
and I understand that you may not want to.

But please don't be sarcastic at me for having some sense of it.

I don't condone his behavior. I will never vote for the guy.

But I will not slam his catholicism. I won't do it.

Catholics believe that when you bring a sin to the confessional, you are absolved. That's it. That's what their faith teaches them.

If we say that God doesn't forgive him... don't we also pretend to know God's mind? How would that make us any different then him insisting that he is forgiven?

I'd rather slam him for being a hypocrite about the sanctity of marriage. I'd rather slam him for being discriminatory and self-righteous. I'd rather slam him for funding a war and then pretending to be pro-life.

He believes he has been forgiven. Who are we to say he hasn't been? This is not something I will slam him on.

33. No issues with his faith.
Hypocrisy is what I have an issue with.

Too many people hide behind their religion. Religion and faith are two different things, IMHO. Religion tells one HOW to believe. Faith is WHAT you believe.

I believe he is using his religion as a "get out of jail" card. It just doesn't cut it with me anymore.

Sorry, that "faith" crap doesn't cut it with me when it comes to liars and hypocrites.

you say: "He believes he is forgiven. I won't question that."

Why won't you question it? Because he says it it's true? How do you KNOW he believes he is forgiven?

Keep in mind he is a lying republican adulterous hypocrite.

Tell me again why you won't "question" him?

Is the word "faith" a magic wand for you?

Did I say that I don't condone his behavior? (I'm pretty sure I did.)

So, I guess you're not reading my posts after all.

All I did was explain the catholic concept of confession. I haven't even said that I believe in the concept myself. I simply stated the what the religion teaches.

The original post was that someone could have the audacity to know the mind of God.

Catholics have faith that when they ask for forgiveness in the confessional, they get forgiveness.

So.... now, what did I say that was so wrong?

27. Or that special goddess willing to live with God, uh, everywhere? Well,
that's what they say, and maybe she didn't want to live everywhere, maybe she really just wants to stay in the Bahamas. And that business of sorting through the dead and sending some to heaven and some to hell -- does she help out with that? Does she help mormon dead re-unite with their previously passed spouses? I guess that would be one of the happier duties.
