The war's supporters talk out of both sides of their mouths.

One side:

"We're making progress."

The other side:

"If we leave Iraq, then Iraq will fall apart/fall into the hands of the terrorists/break down into Civil War."

If the presence of the United States Armed Forces is the only thing that is keeping Iraq from totally collapsing, then what exactly is going on that is good in Iraq? Our presence has been required there for years and it will be required there for many years to come.

We're not making any progress, and it's kind of sad actually that a maniacal dictator and his family could run Iraq better than Bush and his family.

1. Yep, both comments are correct.
Baghdad is apparently quieter with the presence of all those extra troops. However, other parts of the country are exploding.

That pretty well sums it up.

2. Problem is progress is measured relative to objectives of evil people
All the claimed progress is probably as perverse as the evil people in charge.

3. Define "progress"
If by "progress" you mean that companies like KBR and Halliburton et al are making money hand over fist, then you can be sure of it.

Official: Report says Iraq government hasn't met any of its benchmarks

Associated Press - July 9, 2007 7:53 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - A US official says a draft report to Congress will conclude that the US-backed government in Iraq has met none of its targets for political, economic and other reform.

One likely result of the report will be a vastly accelerated debate among President Bush's top aides on withdrawing troops and scaling back the US presence in Iraq.

A draft version of the report has been circulating among various government agencies in Washington. It's expected to be presented to Congress on Thursday or Friday.

The official tells The Associated Press that it's highly unlikely that Bush will withhold or suspend some aid to the Iraqis based on the report, as he can do under the law.

5. we are craeting more jihadis by the day and making America less safe by the day.
The war is actually doing the exact opposite of what it was intended to do.
