Cindy Sheehan is expressing core liberal principles-- the ones the democratic party once stood for, IIRC.

Surely you never had the illusion that this place was a completely open forum and why should it be?
It's clearly stated in the rules just exactly what this place allows.

I like Democrats. I assume DEMOCRATIC Underground does too. Therefore
If I sign up for a site that supports my PARTY, which I AGREE with most of the time, I don't expect it to be overrun with support for Lieberman or Sheehan.

77. If Pelosi continues to obstruct justice by refusing a
criminal investigation (which is what impeachment hearings are) of the administration, I will be going to San Fransisco to work for Cindy's campaign.

I'm an American first, and a Democrat second. If the Speaker of my party won't go beyond over site to criminal investigations, then she's wrong, she's ignoring the will of her constituents as well as Dems across the country, and needs to be challenged.

I hope the Speaker, who I like, will reconsider her ban on criminal investigation of this administration so it doesn't come to that.

It would bring me no joy, but I can't just shirk my duty as an American because the Speaker belongs to the same party I do.

Look how some are demonizing Cindy here.

She should be cannonized for what she did, fer crissakes, and instead The Flat Earth Society posts thread after thread with "since she won't run as a Dem, she is helping the other side win."

News flash ostriches - she QUIT the Democratic Party because she (correctly) sees the complicity and corruption that has engulfed it. BTW, anyone catch the list of "ordinary, everyday" people that Hillary hit up for big $$ on the campaign trail today? Oh yes, she's one of "us", alright.

When "the ban" happens - and it will - don't say I didn't warn you.

Party before principle - you just watch.

War - good

Impeachment - bad

Pelosi - perfect

Sheehan - lunatic (or attention whore, depending on the day of the week)

Democrats - we MUST obey (we actually need a raised hand smiley)

Is that how it works? I would hate to break the rules. :)

61. Being deliberately obtuse?
You can criticize all you want. You can oppose Pelosi and support anyone who runs against her who is also a Democrat.

No, that is not how it works and you know it.

Oh sure, DU is pro war, and so are the rules.

You can preach impeachment all you like, as long as you don't campaign for a THIRD PARTY candidate who supports impeachment on this site. You can go and campaign for him or her anywhere else you like, but not on a site where the rules forbid campaigning for a THIRD PARTY candidate. There are going to be plenty of pro-impeachement Dems, I assure you. I've heard some of them speak already, at the state convention.

Pelosi is not perfect. Nor is she the devil. I've heard her speak out against Gitmo. I still remember when she endorsed Murtha for the Majority Leader when many in her party thought it should go to the other guy.

Democrats are like herding cats. We do not obey. And gee thanks for implying that we're Nazi's. That was special of you.

Cindy is neither lunatic or whore. But I disagree with her stance of late. Especially since she's identified my current party as the party of slavery and as having started every war in the 20th Century. She can be wrong. It is possible. She could be a perfectly sincere, nice, wrong person.

And if she doesn't campaign as a Dem, just as Lieberman campaigners didn't belong her, her campaigners won't belong here either. If the powers that be on DU, the ones who wrote the rules, were not consistent in the inforcement OF the rules, I would be VERY disappointed.

Lieberman's folks couldn't, and I would hope that the mods are consistent enough in the rules not to allow it with Cindy either. The rules should not be enforced as a popularity contest.

76. But Cindy isn't running yet. I think they're waiting until it actually happens
then they'll have to say something, I reckon.

But we are all sorta jumping the gun a bit.

Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 11:18 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
I don't see her mounting a strong challenge to Ms. Pelosi in that district despite what my friends from the area tell me...

My problem is anything that splits the left of center vote in a general election by definition works to the benefits of the Republicans...

I also think Ms. Sheehan's incendiary rhetoric about Dems being pro-war and pro-slavery is over the top...

Dems voted to fund the war and they supported slavery...OK Black DUers we gotta scram.

I forgot Democrats supported Slavery. So I think we should purge ourselves from the Democratic Party.

I'm starting a new site called...Black Underground. We will only support candidates that support the Black cause 100%. If not they don't get our vote.

54. Hmmmm
I take it you believe that the Democrats are responsible for most of the wars America fought in the 21st century, they are the party of slavery, and the federal income tax is unconstitutional...

I also think its disingenuous to compare the twenty first century Democratic party with the antebellum Democratic party...

87. Here's some facts
There were over 100 wars during the 20th century.

The US was involved in a handful of them.

The US actually started 5 or so of those wars.

There was a Dem President for the start of one of those wars.

53. yeah its democratic underground... but to blindly accept that democrat = good is no better than the
other side blindly accepting republican = good.

unless we are able to hold "everyone" up to the ethical light of truth and fairness we will constantly swing between 2 sides of a single party.

You can be just as vocal as you like about the failings of the party. And most people here are, wouldn't you say? We do hold their feet to the fire. But it's just that one line that can't be crossed. All the rules say is that you can not CAMPAIGN for a THIRD PARTY candidate.

94. Seems to me though that things are swinging where people are also blindly accepting whatever Cindy
says.

And it also seems that if people are critical of Cindy they call foul yet they can be critical of others and pull the we don't lockstep routine.

So basically it is the pot calling the kettle black on this one.

105. I think the whole thing is sort of silly.
Obviously, its all up to Skinner and crew, but it seems silly to me to only allow dem support. For one, its not like this website is OFFICIAL or anything. Skinner et al can do whatever they want. Why they wouldn't support a progressive independent (who would caucus with the dems ANYWAYS) just because they don't have a D in front of their names is, well, kinda dumb. Why should a rule be hard and fast, when it can be changed for the better.

Why not make an exception for progressive independants?
