Come on, put your money where your mouth is, Davey-boy!

====

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) first got his start in Congress after replacing former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who “abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs” in 1998. At the time, Vitter argued that an extramarital affair was grounds for resignation:

“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,” he said.

2. More hypocrisy from the repubs
He'd be first in line to attack a Dem on the list. If a Dem was found on the list he'd probably be first in line to call for their resignation (but not his)

Hilarious. Karma is not always swift, but sometimes sure is sweet.

As a New Orleanian, I just am tickled to death by this. He's a self-righteous, pompous, fake religious Bushbot.

Resign, hypocrite.

13. I'm most interested in the hypocrisy factor: those who preach "family values".
The "Johnson" knows no political boundaries, but those who carry a big stick against those who've been caught (Clinton) better make sure they can walk the walk.

Vitter was on front page of the Times-Picayune today. Love it.

14. Asking Vitter to resign over marital infidelity is silly, let's not sink to his level.
Instead, use this opportunity to do something constructive: legalize prostitution.
Why?
- allows them to organize, create unions, demand health insurance, vacation time, etc.
- takes a big chunk out of organized crime
- decreases violence against them
- create health and safety standards, formal client confidentiality rules

What consenting adults do in private is none of our business.

Infidelity is a private family issue, not a public concern.

I'm disappointed to see so many gleeful responses to this. Vitter may be an a-hole, but we should be more mature about this issue and advocate for his right to privacy, even if he's not done it for us.

If you want your salacious scandal fix, watch soaps. I highly recommend All My Children.

I'm all for hoisting him on his own petard.

Our only real chance to make people's sex lives actually private is by sticking it to guys like Vitter.

24. Confused here.....
wasn't his phone record in 2001 or 2002? Since he took the office of a man who resigned due to infidelity in 1998/99, shouldn't he have learned something? You can hide but you will be found out!

No, he wasn't a Senator at that point but he was a Congressional Representative. Did he use re-election funds to purchase this infidelity in order to hide it from his wife/family?

31. I left a message at his Washington office asking him to resign.
I even quoted the Senator's criticism of Clinton.

“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess”
