I don't think Moore has that much animosity towards Dr Gupta directly. He just hates the M$M, for good reason. Any sane person probably should.

Promoting Sicko is a good thing, but Mike was really pissed about Wolfie and the war. Wolfie is escaping accountability in this little arrangement, that no doubt will give CNN some good ratings tonight.

28. that is pretty damning
especially because it was so subtle.

I saw Gupta's piece. It clearly wanted very much to appear fair and balanced, very "generously" appearing to concede some of Moore's points.

But in fact it did not point out even one factual error in Moore's movie. They had to do tricks like covering up Cuba on that list to suggest Moore fudged the facts.

They did the kind of thing Moore is so often accused of doing, but it's much worse for CNN to do it, because they pretend not to be taking sides, they pretend to be the "fact-checkers" who judge people like Moore.

came off as a big time shill for the status quo, typical cable news talking points dispenser avoiding real debate on the issue. Dude is a neurosurgeon, so I know it's not because he's dumb. My opinion of the guy is dropping rapidly.

They have already created their talking points to discount Moore andSICKO, and decieve about health care in the US.

BlueCross Secret Memo Re: 'Sicko'...
by Michael Moore

Friends,

An employee who works at Capital BlueCross has sent us a confidential memo written and circulated by its Vice President of Corporate Communications, Barclay Fitzpatrick. His job, it seems, was to go and watch "Sicko," observe the audience's reaction, and then suggest a plan of action for how to deal with the movie.

The memo, which I am releasing publicly in this email, is a fascinating look at how one health care company views "Sicko" -- and what it fears its larger impact will be on the public. The industry's only hope, the memo seems to indicate, is if the movie "flops."

Mr. Fitzpatrick writes: "In typical Moore fashion, Government and business leaders are behind a conspiracy to keep the little guy down and dominated while getting rich."

27. In the court of public opinion...most working people
are going to side with Michael Moore, not because they agree with him on all points, but out of class loyalty. Doctors, for the most part, are seen as wanting to protect their very nice incomes and screw those who need health care. For many working people, doctors seem more concerned about WEALTH care rather than HEALTH care.

23. Good...lets go through the facts with a fine-toothed comb
From what little I've seen, Micheal Moore isn't really getting his chance to put his arguments together. Gupta is poo-pooing him, even though the person who got the facts wrong was Gupta.

Oh, well, now I have seen more, and Michael finally got his say, and he slayed them.

But he blew a chance that he had.

Dr. Gupta said "why would we want to turn over the precious commodity of our national healthcare to the goverment if the government fails so much"

Michael Moore had a great argument how the government used to work (Social Security, MEdicare, defeating Nazis) and how he loves the US government, and that we just elect the wrong people to be in the government. But he had a chance to say "because we elected people WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOVERNMENT, like you, Dr. Gupta."

That would strike at the very heart of this consrvative Reagan-born nightmare we've been living in for so long.

31. Gupta said it all right there
I'm going to have to see it in context.

If it turns out he is actually personally espousing that idea, then all of Blitzer's praise of Gupta as a journalist are out the window. He would be openly taking sides with conservative radicals in the health care debate.

32. I paraphrased
but it was damned close....the precious commodity part is verbatim. Here is a less paraphrased version from memory.

Dr. Gupta said "I do not understand why would Michael would want to turn over the precious commodity of our national healthcare to the goverment..." if the government fails so much.

That would be more accurate, and the sentiment of the government's failure was there because the antecedent was discussion on how the goverment cannot secure the road to Baghdad, lied us to war, etc. ....basically, the goverment is incompetent. The Samjay comes in with the above gem.

Moore set it up perfectly, saying he's a big fan of the US gov't..and talks about all the gov't used to do correctly as well as does correctly now. It was his chance to really pound the idea home that you do not elect politicians who do not believe in government....they are automatically disqualified.

But I'm picky about what people should have said. Call it George Costanza syndrome.

49. I thought Michael did pound it...he said we need good leaders to have good
government programs...and named FDR winning WW2 in less time than we can secure the road from Baghdad to the airport. He mentioned putting a man on the moon in 8 years. His point was you do not elect bad incompetent people.

51. It was the point Moore made....and he is correct.
I just thought that it was his big chance to mention that we elect people who do not believe in government, and THAT is the problem. It is a fine distinction, but the difference is "getting better Republicans" versus questioning the entire ideology that has underpinned our last 25 years of political history.

I am not slamming Moore, though...anyone can miss an opportunity. I am just back seat driving and I am more than willing to strike at the heart of Reaganism, an insidious mind-f%#@ that crosses both sides of the political divide.

29. that's a trick
notice how Gupta's hit piece on Moore appeared to be sympathetic to him, even while going to extraordinary lengths to smear him as a liar.

This does two things. It gives the RW ammo to say CNN is biased toward Moore, and it lends credibility to their slanders on him. As in "even pro-Moore CNN has to admit Moore is lying."

37. Good call
I like the way you think, Enrique.

The point of the whole hit-piece was to make Moore out to be a propagandist in service of a noble cause that doesn't necessarily need Moore's type of solution.

CNN has two default modes...Republican and corporate Democrat. This is corporate Democrat mode, and yes, it still draws fire from the freeper types.

Very astute.

36. The "Sanjay Gupta Show" was HORRENDOUS! I should have known they would do what they did to Michael
on LK. First they show only a very small clip of Michael lambasting Leslie, then they show the ENTIRE Gupta hit piece. Not only did LK stop Michael from talking, he then let Gupta go on and on and on and on and on...then LK had the fucking nerve to tell Michael to stop interrupting Gupta!!! My G-d. That was one of the most PATHETIC examples of "Fair and Balanced" TeeVee I've seen in years! LK sucked. His bias showed bright and clear. Gupta displayed his horse shit smirk throughout the show when Michael actually got a chance to open his mouth, as if what Michael was saying was untrue.

Shame on CNN!

He could not stop pursing his lips. He was not relaxed in his unconscious body language. His smirk only came on when he was speaking, not in the interim periods.

They tried to railroad Moore, but in the end, Moore got his say and slew them both.

King let Gupta have all the time he wanted to make his statements, he told Michael to shut up..."this is going to be balanced", then he told MICHAEL to stop interrupting. What a crock of PURE SHIT that was. Moore was correct in everything he said, but had no time to expound on ANYTHING and Gupta had all the time he wanted.
