Chertoff bases it on history and al-Qaeda statements

By E.A. Torriero
Tribune staff reporter
Published July 10, 2007, 1:36 PM CDT
In an unusually blunt and frank assessment of America's terror threat level, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in Chicago this morning that his "gut feeling" is the nation faces a heightened chance of an attack this summer.

"I believe we are entering a period this summer of increased risk," Chertoff told the Chicago Tribune's editorial board.

Calling it "a gut feeling" based on past patterns of terrorists in Europe, recent al-Qaeda statements and intelligence he did not disclose, Chertoff said of terrorists: "Summertime seems to be appealing to them. ... We worry that they are rebuilding their activities."

A recent terror plot in London and Scotland has America's defense system on alert, Chertoff said. He urged Americans to be attentive if something appears suspicious. But he said there is an assessment "not of a specific threat, but of increased vulnerability."

6. Apparently, Middle Eastern terrorists don't like cold weather.

Hey...

Wait a minute...

If Global Warming makes the Earth hotter, then terrorists will be able to attack us well into October and November.

What causes Global Warming?

Fossil Fuels.

Where do Fossil Fuels come from?

The Middle East.

Hmmmmm...

It's all clear now...

8. Well, why doesn't he come on tee vee and raise the color bar, then?
What, people didn't buy that "cry wolf" color chart of Tom Ridge's? Is that it?

Anyone looking at his creepy Skeletor-Mephistopheles head gets a "gut" feeling, a gut feeling of malaise and acid reflux, at a minimum.

    Summertime.....and the terrah is eeeeeeeeasy!!!
Go on teevee....and proclaim to the sky!!!
There's terrah heeeere....and there's terrah over there, too
So listen up you sheeple, be nervous, scared and cry!!!!

10. Let's take up a collection and buy these cowards Teddy Bears
Unless there is a credible threat, they have no business releasing shit like this. However, we all know that IS intended to terrorize the American people.

13. I always wonder why the terra terra alert goes up
everytime chimpyboy or his puppeteer take a hit on ratings or in the media.

When will they learn that crap don't scare us - that it's them that scares us?

And I second the MIHOP tin foil hats out there.

15. OH, a gut feeling.
Too bad he didn't have a gut feeling in the summer of 2005 that New Orleans had "increased vulnerability" to a Category 3+ hurricane. That might actually have required him to do his job! :eyes:

:hi:

20. Brownie is a sniveling weasel, but Chertoff also bears responsibility.

Of course, the ultimate responsibility for this negligence lies with The Decider. He seems to think he can take responsibility without paying any price in accountability.

16. Doomsday Clock
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 05:45 PM by seemslikeadream

Doomsday Clock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skV5N4hN2qo

Is everyone afraid?
Is everyone ashamed?
Their running torwards their holes to find out
Apocalyptic thieves
Are lost amongst our dead
A message to our friends, to get out

There's wagers on this fear
Ooh, ooh so clear
Depends on what you'll pay to hear

They're bound to kill us all
In white-washed halls
The jackals lick their paws

Please don't stop
It's lonely at the top
These lonely days
Will they ever stop?
This doomsday clock
Tickin' in my heart, not broken

I love life everyday, each and every way
Khafka would be proud to find out
I'm certain of the end, it's the means that has me spooked
It takes an unknown truth to get out
I guess that I'm born free, c'est le ve
I was meant to beg from my knees

Please don't stop
It's lonely at the top
These lonely days
Will they ever stop?
This doomsday clock
Tickin' in my heart
These lonely days, will they ever stop?

Gotta dig in
Gasmasks on
Wait in the sunshine overhead
If this is living, sakes alive
Well then we can't win, no one survives

Is everyone afraid?
You should be ashamed
Apocalyptic screams mean nothing to the dead
Kiss your little son to know all there is
C'mon, last call!
You should want it all!

It's lonely at the top
These lonely days, will they ever stop
This doomsday clock
These lonely days, will they ever stop
It's tickin' in my heart
Is everyone afraid?
