Are the current Republicans in Congress the most obstructionist ever? It seems that they
filibuster and block virtually anything Democrats try to do. Is there any precedent for this?
It makes me even more angry about the almost complete failure by Democrats to exercise any power of this type available to them when they were in the minority.
Will there be any attempt by the Democratic Party to call attention to this and make it a major topic in the 2008 elections?
that everyone in the world automatically assumes Bush is going to veto any and all bills. No one can just pass bills and send them to get signed into law. All bills have to be veto proof before they will even be considered.
The world is silent on the fact that a president who has only vetoed two bills is now considered to be a veto maniac.
And has his spokespeople say as much before they hit his desk. Dems know exactly what his stance is on every bill they send him and they also know that he refuses to pass anything that isn't 100% what he wants because he is a 2 year old child on a temper tantrum.
He's only vetoed two bills because he never had to veto anything while the Republicans controlled the agenda in the majority and now we've only been able to get two of our bigger bills past those same Republicans that are filibustering everything that comes their way. Without 60 votes we're screwed and considering Lieberman is a RW hack and Tim Johnson is at home in bed, we don't have the votes to break that 60.
I am saying Bush has vetoed two bills but the entire congress is running scared of passing any bills because of Bush's veto.
There is no discussion on this.
The public is unaware that a GOP president will only pass bills if and only if a GOPer presented it. If a Dem presents a bill, the bill will be vetoed.
That is a totalitarian presidency. We have turned into a totalitarian state with the people being kept completely in the dark of that fact.
7. Isn't there something to be said for passing good bills anyway and MAKING him veto them?
And being able to honestly tell the American people "we tried but were obstructed by the Republicans, in Congress with filibuster, and in the White House with vetoes"?
