Local Republicans react to Vitter revelations
My problem with this is that they are talking to party organizers and representatives instead of John and Jane Q on the street. I think the reaction will be different when they talk to the true locals.

Local Republicans say they still believe U.S. Sen. David Vitter can be an effective leader for the state, despite Vitter’s acknowlegment Monday that his phone number was among 15,000 posted online Monday by accused Washington prostitution ringleader Deborah Jeane Palfrey.

Mark Gremilion, chairman of the Lafayette Parish Republican Party Executive Committee, said he thinks Vitter will continue to work hard for the state.

“This is something that’s in his distant past,” ( :eyes: ) Gremilion said. “Since then, he’s worked incredibly hard through all the problems our state has had, and I look forward to him continuing to do his job.”

Jo Ellen Cross, a member of the Acadiana Republic Women and former member of the group’s board, also said she did not condemn Vitter for his actions.

“I’m kind of disappointed, but I’m not going to call for his resignation and all of that,” Cross said. “I think the man is entitled to a second chance.” ( :eyes: )

1. Distant past?
Is that like he had a youthful indiscretion when he was 43, but now that he's 47, he's done sowing his wild oats?

I guess Clinton's affair is then technically ancient history, and they can stop talking about that now.

3. "Current" in Clinton-years is THREE DECADES, but DISTANT in republican-years is 5 years
and in republican conduct rules, anything connected to sex is a "youthful indisgression", no matter how old the person is/was.
