They just gave the green light to Bush - they are giving him cover. They were full of it all along. Liars.

3. And think of all the jackasses on this side who cannonized Hagel.
A Republican is a Republican. The next time I hear someone sing the praises of one of these SOB's, I am going to slam on them like a huge wave battering the coast. Robert Scheer is jackass number 1!

http://www.alternet.org/columnists/story/46907/

"Chuck Hagel for president! If it ever narrows down to a choice between him and some Democratic hack who hasn't the guts to fundamentally challenge the president on Iraq, then the conservative Republican from Nebraska will have my vote.

Yes, the war is that important, and the fact that Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, the leading Democratic candidate, still can't or won't take a clear stand on the occupation is insulting to the vast majority of voters who have."

14. Hagel is one of the most conservative Republicans in Congress
One stance on one issue does not a liberal make.

Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 07:01 PM by nolabels
With a little time of watching them it's get easier to figure out the angles. Chuck Hagel and few other snakes from the red states can be more magnanimous with little fear of backlash because how safe they are of not being to voted out. When push come to shove you know which side they vote at. Hagel running for the Pub POTUS nomination has to seem more plural or his base won't come out for him.

10. Why they are aligning themselves w Bush makes no sense to me
I understand that Mitch McConnell is married to the bush admin. So that makes some sense.

But when McConnell comes a' armtwisting, why in the world would they want to be alligned w Bush at this point. His poll numbers are a disaster. Anybody who was aligned w him got thier butts kicked in 06. And lastly, he is dangerous. I just don't get it. What power does Bush have over them?

23. He Needed To
In order to reconsider, at least 1 person from their side has to vote "No."

I'm not sure of the logistics, but once he realized it was going to be defeated, he had to vote that way.

33. No....Filibuster
The repubs would not allow the issue to be brought to the floor for debate and then a vote.

Thus, there was no vote on the actual bill.

34. No. They voted to filibuster the proposition.
They needed 60 yes votes for the proposition to be debated. They only got 49 (so all Dems voted to proceed and all reps to filibuster, I guess, with 3 Reps who did not cast their vote).

35. ah, thanks to you both. I thought it was 60 needed to fillibuster.
Seems that it should be. It should take a majority to obstruct progress, not to actually get something done.

any talk about ending this quagmire over there might be counter-productive to any stocks Grassley and the like might have in the Military Industrial Complex or something in his, or his constituents portfolios. So lets just pretend it's all hunky dory while those stocks keep rising for awhile, common freedom isn't free! Ra Ra go USA! yea :sarcasm: Peace.

Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 06:46 PM by Homer12
Just watch. The majority of the public is against this war, and they want to keep the war going. Prepare for the fangs to come out. People need to start recall efforts in their states against pro-war politicans and start electing anti-war polticans.

These pukes must pay with their political lives.
