Snow: Iraq Withdrawal Would Bring Terrorists ‘To A Shopping Mall Near You’

Today on Fox News, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow defended the President’s Initial Benchmark Assessment Report, which argues that the administration is making “progress” in Iraq.

Snow attacked proposals to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, claiming:

To walk out of Iraq right now would plant a seed that ultimately would lead to destabilization there, hundreds of thousands of deaths, loss of our influence in the region, would create instability throughout the Middle East throughout East Asia, throughout Europe. And sooner or later it would come to our shores, to a shopping mall near you.

But this doomsday scenario is already playing out in Iraq, worsened by the President’s misguided policies:

– Since Bush announced his surge in January, violence has skyrocketed. Close to 600 U.S. soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians have died since January. Military assessments suggest that “the U.S. military’s plan to secure Baghdad against a rising insurgency is falling far short of its goal.” A recent bombing killed over 150 in Baghdad, “one of the deadliest single bombings, if not the deadliest, since the 2003 invasion.”

– The war in Iraq has already destabilized the Middle East and exported terrorism throughout the world. “The rate of fatal terrorist attacks around the world by jihadist groups, and the number of people killed in those attacks, increased dramatically after the invasion of Iraq. Globally there was a 607 percent rise in the average yearly incidence of attacks.”

5. Yes, go shopping, just be scared the whole time.
Stimulate the economy and be watchful for people getting into cropdusting stores that don't look like they belong there.

today and she was preaching the same line of BS. What perturbed me the most is that she was not challenged.

7. He is as full of shit as Busholini.
330,000 Iraqi Troops cannot deal with around 2,000 al Q in Iraq? Iraqis do not want these "foreign jihads" in their country. If the US ends the Occupation and it's demand that Iraq turn over 89% of their Oil revenues to the Multi-Natal's, Iraqis will kick al Q out of Iraq within a few months. The Busholini Regime is in Iraq for one reason: Oil Control.

14. How about this? "Coming to a Walker's Point near you".
Same thing in my book. The audacity of these mother fuckers, to try to threaten the US with this "mall" stuff. And they're at 26 Fucking percent! We'd be in prison now if they still had their earlier numbers.

There's probably only once scenario under which Bush and Cheney could ever even try and reinstitute a draft. They don't wanna leave Iraq and they need reinforcements desperately. Our soldiers there now are literally at their breaking point from being overextended.

Chertoff's comments, this, the reports about Al Queda regrouping...

I don't wanna believe that, but I'm just sayin'. It's eerie.

19. He needs to be asked...
...are the lives of Americans more important than the lives of Iraqi citizens, or better yet, our American troops. Apparently their reasoning is, we should stay there and have the country in disarray and watch our troops slowly die just because the terrorists are apparently just having so much fun wreaking havoc over there, that they're too busy to come and attack us over here.

For all the breaking of the Constitution they did so that they could "protect us" from terrorists over here in the States, you would think they would be able to do more to prevent terrorist attacks over here. Or, come to think of it, after seeing this awful administration in action, I shouldn't expect so much.

20. The domino theory hard at work.
Didn't they use a version of that for Vietnam? If the Commies take over Vietnam they then will turn their sights on Cambodia, then Thailand and then Trenton, New Jersey! Isn't that right? Comrade!

I, for one, am willing to forego mall shopping if it means bringing the troops home alive.

I will shop locally, at off-hours to avoid crowds, purchasing only items on my shopping list to avoid dawdling, if that that would keep the troops from dying in Iraq.

Given al-Qaeda's penchant for attacks on religious sites, I will forego any visits to any churches for the foreseeable future. That's easy because I'm an atheist, but I'm sure Jesus would have understood.

I expect to cycle more, fortuitously avoiding the consumption of oil from the unstable Middle East and giving me the exercise the President says that I need.

"...to a shopping mall near you." sounds like trailer material for the next installment of the Scary Movie series.

Tony Snow, you are an ass.
