There's no underlying crime.... :sigh:
my dad and I are about as far apart on politics as anyone can get. Even questions like "how's the weather by you" can quickly erupt into a debate about global warming

ennywho - he calls me last night just to say hello and ask how my new job is going.

don't know why, but he brings up the Libby commutation and launches into the "no underlying crime" crap

I let him go on about it for a few minutes then I ask him where the underlying crime was that led to the perjury charges against Clinton? If bringing perjury and obstruction charges against Libby was wrong because there was no underlying crime, then the perjury charges and impeachment against Clinton was wrong because NO ONE was ever charged and tried in a court of law for a blowjob.

of course I got the standard one-excuse-fits-all "that's different" and he suddenly "hears" my mother calling him for something...

1. It is always
fun to quote Judge Tatel, who noted that under the circumstances, the charges Mr. Fitzgerald was considering for perjury and obstruction were for the underlying crime, which had national security implications. And that is from a federal judge who had access to the sensitive information never made public.

2. Chit, That Is Nothing
I get it from Dems who have been fighting the war. How can we impeach? What is the crime? Like I have the time to explain all the crimes these criminals are guilty of. We need someone to consolidate all the crimes for us beginning with the lies for going to war and including outing a CIA agent and endangering not only her life but everyone involved in Brewster Jennings as well ruining the operation which puts us all at risk. And the evidence we already have including eyewitness testimony (dead and alive), the Downing Street Memo and the PNAC. Even I who have kept on top of their criminal doings from day one have a hard time compiling their numerous crimes since new ones seem to occur almost daily.

4. OF COURSE there's an underlying crime. - and a note about Dads
SOMEONE committed treason by leaking a covert CIA operative's identity. They can't prove who that someone is ONLY because Scooter lied under oath and obstructed justice.

With your dad - enjoy the "battle" - someday, when you don't have dad to "battle" with anymore you'll miss it like hell. These little word dances are precious. Enjoy them. :)

7. i know
he'll be 79 in december..

his side of the family immigrated from Germany after WW-1, and after we've had a "word dance", I keep seeing an old bumper sticker that said "You can always tell a German - you just can't tell'em much"

6. Exposing an entire covert nuclear-materials-tracking operation is not...
...an "underlying crime"?

8. I had the same conversation with some semi-RW friends last weekend
and they said, "that's different" too. While holding both my hands out like a scale and "weighing" the issues I said, "Ok, let's see here... blow job... outing a CIA agent... blow job, outing a CIA agent... hmmm...... pretty hard choice here... blow job... outing a CIA agent..."

They changed the subject.
